The role


This is a new and exciting team that will play a critical role in bringing together our trade planning capabilities to ensure our GM business in focused on maximising it's potential.

You will work closely with a number of cross-functional teams to ensure a broad range of inputs come together to drive Sainsbury's-wide alignment behind our trading priorities, ensuring optimisation of our customer, trading and commercial plan to deliver on our ambitious customer outcomes.


You will be widely regarded as a positive, engaging, and curious person who is able to collaborate with and influence a wide range of senior stakeholders to ensure our commercial plans are executed brilliantly for our customers across all GM channels.

You will have strong functional knowledge of both Sainsbury's and Argos E2E operating models, a strong passion for commercial and customer planning, analytics, and operational excellence.


What you need to do:


  • Support with the coordination and visualisation of 'one integrated plan' and a singular narrative that ensures crossfunctional teams pull together in how we show up for our customers.
  • Represent GM, facilitate and be an active voice in a variety of forums, ensuring opportunities, risks, and dependencies are clearly communicated to relevant functional stakeholders.
  • Map out processes, critical paths, and touchpoints, ensuring opportunities to improve, clarify purpose or increase effectiveness is embedded.
  • Work collaboratively with a broad group of functions including Commercial, Business Planning, Digital, Retail, Marketing, Supply Chain, Retail and Finance to define effective plans and deliver largescale trading initiatives.
  • Develop the Trade Planning process, ensuring key handoffs, dependencies and checkpoints are in place to simplify execution.
  • Plan and facilitate the collective PIR (Post Implementation Review) process, ensuring learns are identified and shared to drive alignment behind both inyear and future trading opportunities.
  • Regularly review and adapt the plan for "In Year Trading", by working with the functional owners of activity, bringing together the complete picture and lay out any escalation or choices that need to be made in the appropriate forums.
  • Work closely with the GM Reporting team, defining both the needs but also supporting with ensuring required detail is collated to agreed timescales to drive the effective reporting and analytics of Events, Campaigns and Trade-Driving activity.
  • Work closely with the GM and Clothing A&R Teams to ensure the trade plan is executed with product available for customers.
  • Ensure best practise is shared across the business teams, playing a key role in bringing together an engaged trade planning community.

What you need to know

  • Experience and working knowledge of multichannel retailing across a number of commercial, analytical and operational disciplines such as Commercial, Digital, Marketing, Retail and Supply Chain.
  • Strong understanding of the corporate strategy, goals, and customer insights
  • Ability to think both strategically and tactically, supporting the input of key learnings through the trade planning process.
  • Strong commercial acumen and analytical skills you know how to work through ambiguity and evolving priorities at pace.
  • How to work effectively with a range of crossfunctional teams, ensuring ARCI's are clear and expectations understood.
  • How to facilitate or lead discussions, utilising a range of coaching, presentation or communication styles to influence clearly aligned outcomes and ensure clear actions are committed to.
  • Highly competent in developing at pace a broad range of engaging, relevant content, or analysis, utilising a variety of tools including to but not limited to Microsoft Word, Powerpoint and Excel.
