Job Summary:
The Senior Quality Inspector is responsible for leading the QC Inspection Department.
This involves close liaison with the Operations Department to ensure parts and products are routinely checked in a timely manner to support customer delivery requirements whilst ensuring specified quality requirements are also maintained.
Responsibilities:
Duties will include but not be limited to:
- Manage the QC inspection resource and allocate work in line with business requirements, ensuring daily/weekly targets are met.
- Use standard handheld measuring equipment, surface plate equipment, CMM, comparator, fixed gauging, thread gauges etc. to measure to a high level of accuracy and precision.
- Complete final inspection of machined parts, subassemblies and final assemblies in accordance with the Company's drawings and procedures.
- Complete final inspection of completed products including the witness of performance tests and final documentation records.
- Work closely with Product Engineering to make sure correct inspection times are added to new jobs and provide feedback on existing jobs.
- Arrange for the control and management of inspection and measuring equipment and facilities.
- Create maintain and perform Risk Assessments and COSHH documentation for the Quality Control department. ensuring that all are in place, up to date and that employees fully understand/signed those relevant to their role.
- Act as the QC representative at daily Business Planning meetings.
- Authorise holidays and other types of absence, being mindful of Company policy ensuring that adequate staffing levels are maintained.
- Raise resourcing concerns to line manager when relevant and make appropriate suggestions to resolve the issues.
- Set targets, deadlines and objectives for each member of the team.
- Undertake appraisals and performance reviews as and when required, highlighting training and development needs and ensuring these are met.
- Take responsibility for full and comprehensive induction of all new personnel before they commence work, completing probationary reviews in accordance with Company policy.
- In cooperation with line manager, take responsibility for the recruitment of personnel ensuring best practice and Company policies are adhered to.
- Ensure adequate training is maintained to achieve a flexible work force, able to cover absenteeism and changing business needs.
- Ensure all individuals within the QC team are competent to undertake designated roles and monitor performance.
- Manage employee absence ensuring Return to Work interviews are conducted within 24 hours of employee return; raising concerns to line manager and/or HR Manager where appropriate.
- Manage underperforming team members by setting targets and deadlines and follow through in accordance with Company policy in liaison with line manager and HR.
- Deal with employee grievances in accordance with Company procedure whilst ensuring that the line manager is aware of the issues.
- Deal with disciplinary and/or capability issues to Stage One in accordance with Company policy ensuring that the line manager is informed.
- Monitor time and attendance and ensure team members are working full shifts. Identify issues and resolve.
- Compile, maintain and ensure team members understand and adhere to all Standard Operating Procedures.
- Maintain the training matrix.
- Ensure Health and Safety and wellbeing of the team is managed.
- Perform other such duties commensurate with the nature and level of the post as may be reasonably required.
The Person:
Essential Criteria:
- Significant demonstrable experience in a Quality Control related role within a manufacturing organization, including the selection, commissioning and use of precision measuring equipment.
- Demonstrable experience of managing a team of Inspectors/Technicians.
- Good strong team player with the ability to influence others and lead a team.
- Excellent communication skills both verbal and written.
- Competent at managing own time and deliverables effectively.
- Ability to demonstrate a positive cando attitude and work calmly under pressure.
- Committed to work to deadlines and determined to overcome unexpected obstacles to get to the right solution.
- Excellent level of attention to detail.
Desirable Criteria:
- Experience of calibration methods and systems.
- Experience of working whilst being witnessed by customers.
- Experience/ knowledge of APQP, PPAP, FAIR etc.
- Experience of NDE
- Knowledge of MSA, Process Capability and SPC.
