Cystic Fibrosis Trust, Media Manager

Contract:
Permanent role, working 35 hours per week


Location:
Role can either be undertaken on a home based basis, or as a London based staff member which would require two days per week in the London office


Starting salary:
up to circa £40,000


Expected week of interviews:
TBC, likely week commencing 30th January

Charity People is partnering with Cystic Fibrosis Trust to recruit for the organisations next Media Manager.


Working within a talented Communications Team you will be responsible for raising and managing the profile of cystic fibrosis and Cystic Fibrosis Trust; you'll focus on developing and leading relationships with key media outlets and journalists, andwill line manage the organisation's Media Officer.

About the role

Key responsibilities within this role will include:

  • Using your awareness of the UK's charity, healthcare, and policy landscape to inform planning communications and developing strategies that advocate for people with cystic fibrosis and raise awareness of the condition.
  • Deliver high profile media coverage for the organisation.
  • Identify stories and news and turn complex issues into compelling stories to pitch to journalists, as well as comment pieces and reactive statements.
  • Develop and implement a media plan the promotes the work of CFT and its ambitious strategy.
  • Create, develop, and manage relationships with key journalists and media contacts.
  • Take a strategic approach to communications planning, working with teams across CFT as well as colleagues within the Communications Team such as the Social Media Manager to ensure alignment across external communications and channels.
  • Advise senior leadership on reactive communication when necessary and provide consistent support to media representatives including written and verbal briefing
  • Line manage the Media Officer and provide direction and support using coaching and mentoring to develop their skills
  • Lead CFT's media evaluation and produce coverage reports using learnings to consistently adapt and increase the organisation's reach

About you
We'd love to hear from individuals with the following skills and experience:

  • Demonstrable experience of successfully working within a PR and media environment. Previous experience within a media role within a charity is desirable but not essential.
  • A background in managing relationships with journalists.
  • Demonstrable experience of driving media coverage and of using your copywriting and editing skills to create impactful communication materials
  • Ability to build and maintain relationships with local, regional, and national journalists and industry personnel.
  • Able to use a range of digital platforms, including social media, to increase awareness and engagement.
  • Ability to inspire people to share impactful stories that raise interest in issues relating to cystic fibrosis.
