We are looking to appoint an enthusiastic, efficient, and motivated member of staff to join our friendly team in Brachytherapy.
The role involves both clinical and administration work.The work is fast paced, demands a high degree of accuracy, and involves liaising with wards, theatres, oncologists and physics staff.
You will work with a wide variety of staff ensuring the smooth running of the brachytherapy department.Admin:
Scheduling patients for complex pathways requiring multiple appointments (MR scans, pre op, ward, theatre). Answering telephone queries from patients and professionals, telephoning patients to discuss appointments including booking transport and interpreters. Attending meetings to ensure resources allocated appropriately and efficiently. Anticipating schedule issues and identifying solutions. Month end data entry and collation for reports. Modernisation of current admin workflow.
Using hospital IT systems such as Mosaiq, Careflow and Theatreman including data analysis.
Clinical:
Assisting in Theatre
- accurate documentation, set up of equipment, cleaning and restocking equipment, connecting patients for treatment, chaperoning.
Stock control:
Ordering and managing equipment supplies.
To be involved in QC of the brachytherapy equipment and sources.

We are based in Manchester and serve a population of 3.2 million across Greater Manchester & Cheshire, but as a national specialist around 15% patients are referred to us from other parts of the country.
We provide radiotherapy through one of the largest radiotherapy departments in the world; chemotherapy on site and through 14 other hospitals; highly specialist surgery for complex and rare cancer; and a wide range of support and diagnostic services.
We run one of the largest early clinical trial units in Europe with over 300 trials every year.
Cancer research in Manchester, most of which is undertaken on the Christie site, has been officially ranked the best in the UK.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
General
The place of work is normally The Christie, Withington, but the post holder may be required to carry out work at other local hospitals with a radiotherapy service.
Currently typical hours for this post will be 8-4 Monday to Friday. You may need to work an early (from 8am) or late shift (until 6pm) once a week.
Ensure all work complies with current UK legislation for work with ionizing radiation (IRR 2017, IRMER 2018) and the Trust's ISO 9001:2015-compliant Quality Management System for the provision of radiotherapy.
Promote best practice and raise standards within a multi-disciplinary group and participate in continuing professional development.
Maintain patient confidentiality at all times
Administration
Accurate scheduling of all aspects of patient's brachytherapy
- pre-clerking, MR scan, theatre, ward bed, transport, interpreters etc. Use of a checklist to ensure that all stages are completed correctly.
Telephone patients to discuss appointments and to deal with short notice changes to appointments. Adhere to trust telephone policy.
Write to patients with appointment times and details.
Use of IT systems to include clinical systems such as Theatreman, Mosaiq, Medway. Additionally, Excel/ Word/Outlook.
Work together with the other administrator to ensure efficient use of theatre.
Cross cover for absence/annual leave of the other administrator ensuring handover/phone calls are picked up and responded to.
Collecting/delivering notes for pre-clerking clinic/ward admission
Demonstrate flexibility and initiative when patients need rearranging at short notice
Ensure treatment summaries and patient records are accurately entered on Mosaiq.
Be responsible for month end reports and data error corrections.
Radiation protection
Attend radiation protection meetings and take minutes
Organise quarterly meetings.
Promote radiation protection within the department-assist with training where required.
Stock control
Collection/delivery of sterile/dirty equipment to/from TSSU
Maintain appropriate levels of stock ensuring consumables are ordered on a timely basis.
Ensure all areas are kept supplied with consumables and paperwork and the stock room tidy.
Clinical Brachytherapy
Assist in theatre with the insertion of brachytherapy applicators (set up, documentation, taking measurements).
Cleaning of medical devices (e.g. Ultrasound probes) prior to and post procedure.
Undertake routine quality assurance procedures.
