Job Purpose:


With delivery of new data capabilities, we have established a Data team, focused on all aspects of data and analytics.

The team comprises experts collaborating with stakeholders across Ascot to deliver significant business value.


Ascot is seeking a Data Governance Lead to join our Data team, focusing on enhancing data governance and management practices.

The role is central to ensuring data quality, compliance, and effective management, particularly in a regulated environment.


The role is based in Ascot's office in the City of London and will be a hybrid home/office working model.


Detailed Duties:


  • Develop and implement a comprehensive data governance framework.
  • Create, implement, and maintain data governance policies and procedures.
  • Work with data owners and data stewards to establish and enforce data quality metrics, monitoring, and improvement processes.
  • Identify and appoint data stewards, providing guidance and support.
  • Develop and maintain a data catalog, taxonomy, and data lineage documentation.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to ensure data governance practices align with the company's data strategy and infrastructure.
  • Advocate for data governance best practices and drive initiatives to enhance datadriven decisionmaking.
  • Report on the progress of data governance initiatives to senior leadership. Develop and deliver training and awareness programs to promote data governance principles across the organization.

Experience:

Must have

  • Minimum of 5 years in data governance, data management, or a related field.
  • Data Governance Expertise: Proven experience in developing and implementing data governance policies and procedures in a regulated environment.
  • Technology Skills: Familiarity with data management technologies and tools, such as data catalogues, data lineage, and data quality tools.
  • Stakeholder Management: Proven history of working with both technical and nontechnical stakeholders, bridging the gap between data teams and business units.
Desirable

  • Insurance Industry Experience: Deep understanding of the insurance and underwriting domain, especially in relation to the Lloyd's market.
  • Degree in Information Systems, Computer Science, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • Agile and Scrum: Experience working in Agile environments and familiarity with Scrum methodologies, especially in a data context

Regulatory Compliance:
Knowledge of regulatory standards specific to the insurance industry and data management, e.g., Solvency II.

  • Problem-Solving: Skilled in identifying challenges in data governance and devising practical, innovative solutions.
  • Detail-Oriented: Meticulous attention to detail, ensuring the accuracy and integrity of data governance processes and documentation.
  • Strategic Vision: Ability to develop longterm data governance strategies that align with organizational goals and adapt to evolving data landscapes.
  • Change Management: Proficiency in managing change, advocating for new processes, and facilitating the adoption of data governance practices across the organization.
  • Continuous Learning: Commitment to staying updated with the latest trends, tools, and best practices in data governance and management.
