Salary:
£52,084 - £57,344 + (Commensurate with skills and experience)


What you'll be doing:

  • Leading the Active Vehicle Control System (AVCS) Functional Development Safety Team covering concept, through to delivery of the detailed design.
  • Performing Functional Failure Analysis (FFA) and construction of Hazard Analysis Fault Trees. Inform the design and determine the contribution to Failure Conditions (and ultimately the contribution to the AVC Safety Argument).
  • Working closely with the AVC Functional Development Design Team at an early stage of the lifecycle to help define the design architecture and ensure the project safety requirements are met.
  • Exploit AGILE and Model Based Engineering environment to ensure safety analysis is integral to the design tasks.
  • Liaison with the external customer, (Electronic Systems, MOD and Whole Boat Safety Team (Submarines).
  • Support development of new safety MBSE related processes and toolsets (e.g., with Math works).

Your skills and experiences:
Essential

  • Demonstrable Team Leadership experience and experience having managed engineering staff,
  • Experience of product safety lifecycle, in particular new design development,
  • Knowledge of Industry Standards and Practices e.g., DEF0056 and ARP4754A and ARP4761 (or equivalent).
  • Experience of working on complex and safety critical systems.
  • Ability to build and articulate coherent safety cases.
Desirable.

  • Knowledge of MBE and MBSE, techniques and tools.
  • Use of Mathworks tools.

The Functional Development Safety team:


An exciting and rewarding opportunity is now on offer as the Safety Design Lead - AVCS (Active Vehicle Control System) within the AIR Functional Development Safety team, which is providing design support to the Dreadnought programme.


This influential role requires a self-starter with excellent communications skills and the ability to influence, not only within the AIR business unit (BU) but across other BU's including Rochester and Submarines.

You will manage a team of safety practitioners, ensuring adherence to all AIR safety policies with a view to building and articulating coherent safety cases.

The ability to self-manage with a collaborative approach is essential.
