An exciting opportunity has arisen for aMidwifery Clinical Tutor.

This post will be split between Bedfordshire Hospitals and the University of Bedfordshire and will be key to supporting learners and new registrants to bridging the gap between academia and practice.

This will be a varied and exciting role combining excellent clinical, teaching and facilitating skills with organisational abilities.

The post will identify training needs of learners and facilitate delivery of training and the development of clinical skills for students undertaking pre-registration courses in line with NMC registration requirements.


Work as an integral member of both the Bedfordshire Hospitals midwifery education team and the University of Bedfordshire midwifery team fostering a strong link between the organisations and bridging the gap between academic teaching and clinical practice for both learners and educators.

Lead on the support and education of Student Midwives in the practice placement setting ensuring that Practice Supervisors (PS) and Practice Assessors (PA) maintain up to date knowledge and competence of the standards for midwifery education and the University of Bedfordshire programme.

Lead on the effective implementation of new educational initiatives, for example the Nursing and Midwifery Council's Standards for Student Supervision and Assessment (SSSA) or Coaching and Peer Assisted Learning in practice (CPAL), ensuring that they are embedded in practice and are maintained.

Be responsible for personal and professional development of all pre and post registration learners within the Maternity Department.

Facilitate high quality practice learning, seeking out innovative methods of delivery and new educational opportunities to enrich and broaden the learner's experience.
