We are looking for Band 2 Ward Clerk to work on the Haematology Unit as part of a job share.

The position is set days Thursday and Friday working between the hours of 8-4.

Ward Clerks provide administrative support to the ward.

This includes answering telephone calls, updating confidential patient data, making follow up appointments, liaising with medical secretaries, admitting and discharging patient on electronic systems, ordering stationary.


You will also support the Daycare Unit with managing our scheduling tool Bookwise, inputting next appointments and chemotherapy schedules - training will be provided.


  • Act as ward receptionist and greet patients and visitors, including those with communication difficulties, on arrival to the ward in accordance with Trust standards and expectations.
  • Ensure that patients are shown to designated waiting areas and given information packs and/or leaflets where applicable.
  • Ensure that patient's notes and other documentation are prepared and managed confidentially
  • Take responsibility for accurate data entry and retrieval via computer e.g, Patient centre, Casenote tracking, and other systems.
  • Ensure that discharged patient notes are returned promptly to appropriate secretaries or medical records department, including case note tracking.
  • Arrange follow-up appointments if required.
  • Ensure that patient admission documentation is maintained appropriately and that a record is kept of clinical activity, as required.
  • Ensure that stationery/supplies are ordered as necessary.
  • Ensure that patient's notes are made available prior to admission.
  • Ensure that information is relayed appropriately to the multi-professional and/or multiagency teams to ensure the safe discharge and follow-up of patients.
  • Report/requisition broken or faulty equipment and furnishings within the ward/department
