Set the bar for greatness

  • Prepare and present cases before the FA Regulatory Commission and Appeals Board
  • Provide legal advice on investigations into and prosecutions of breaches of FA Rules and Regulations to the Governance team, wider FA and FA stakeholders
  • Provide advice to the organisation on regulatory issues as necessary eg disciplinary action involving the England teams brought by UEFA and FIFA
  • Advise on amendments to the FA's Rules and Regulations, particularly in relation to investigations and prosecutions
  • Liaise with external stakeholders eg UKAD on regulatory issues

About the Team

  • Legal and Governance... working to protect the integrity of football, this team supports the FA as a business, while acting as a regulator both on and off the field. They get involved in everything from behaviour and regulations on the pitch, to checking contracts and to ensuring young people can enjoy the game in a safe environment.

What will you be doing?

  • Provide legal advice primarily to the Legal & Governance division, and to the wider organisation on regulatory issues
  • Advise on and prepare all stages of disciplinary cases brought by the FA
  • Assist with developing and refining the football regulatory rules, regulations, systems, policies and procedures
  • Advise on governance policy
  • Advise on all relevant rule and regulation changes
  • Assist with ensuring that rule and regulation changes progress through the necessary committee, FRA and Council and shareholders and are accurately published in the Handbook
  • Liaise directly with relevant stakeholders and attend the FRA and Council meetings as required
  • Develop and refine the systems and procedures of the team including working to agreed KPIs
  • Provide Leadership, management, and development for all team members
  • Executes additional tasks as required in order to meet FA Group changing priorities.
  • Comply with all company policies and procedures to ensure the highest standards of health, safety and wellbeing can be maintained.
  • As part of The FA's commitment to ensuring a safe environment for everyone in football, every employee will be required to complete a DBS check. The level of the check required will be based on the activity of the specific job role and in line with legislation and government guidance.

What are we looking for?

  • Essential for the role:
  • Must be a qualified Barrister with considerable advocacy skills and experience gained in an adversarial setting
  • Significant experience of providing advice on investigations and the strength of evidence, preferably in a sports law or other regulatory or professional disciplinary context, is essential
  • Proven leadership skills and experience of managing and developing a team
  • Beneficial to have:
  • Knowledge and understanding of football is highly desirable
  • Knowledge and understanding of safeguarding in a sporting context is also desirable
