Description

The Neurosurgery Patient Pathway Coordinator is responsible for overseeing all aspects of the patient pathway, from referral to treatment and follow up care.


The key tasks respectively involve managing the inpatient, day case waiting and ward attender lists for Consultant Neurosurgeons operating at Southmead Hospital, in accordance with Government Access Targets and Trust's Patient Access Policy.

To ensure efficient and effective use of available resources.


To act as a secretary with support of the admin assistant to manage the general admin queries day to day and work with the consultant's team to answer any patient queries.


To play a central role within these services and to work in close liaison with colleagues, staff in other departments, GPs, patients and the general public.


To exercise initiative, independent judgment and decision making with situations arising from the duties described below to ensure an effective, high quality service.


Logging patient calls, recording referrals and completing the makeup of files; supporting the organising of the delivery of equipment, booking outpatient appointments, and checking patients out on the Careflow PAS (Patient Administration System) to ensure appropriate income generation; to ensure accurate RTT and income data.

  • Requirement to concentrate in a busy, open plan office environment
  • The working environment can sometimes be noisy and busy - need to respect the privacy of colleagues and minimise interruptions or noise levels when possible
  • There is frequent requirement for prolonged concentration and occasional requirement to concentrate on unpredictable and multiple demands.
  • Contact, both via telephone and face-to-face, with carers or patients who may be emotionally upset and may present in challenging ways, and with health care professionals. Tact and effective communication may be required to defuse emotionally charged situations.
  • Requirement to be flexible to support the core working hours required by the department to deliver the service

The key tasks respectively involve managing the Outpatient, inpatient waiting list and secretarial administration work for Consultant Neurosurgeons operating at Southmead Hospital, in accordance with Government Access Targets and Trust's Patient Access Policy.

To ensure efficient and effective use of available resources.


To manage the waiting list and co-ordinate admissions, pre-operative assessment clinics, ward attendances and theatre lists and liase with the independent sector to arrange booking for NHS patients to be admitted to the private hospital for their procedures.


To act as a secretary with support of the admin assistant to manage the general admin queries day to day and work with the consultant's team to answer any patient queries.


To play a central role within these services and to work in close liaison with colleagues, staff in other departments, GPs, patients and the general public.


To exercise initiative, independent judgment and decision making with situations arising from the duties described below to ensure an effective, high quality service.
