The MHID Team is a multidisciplinary team that forms part of the NHS England funded Tier 4 Service for Complex Autism and Associated Neurodevelopmental Disorders (SCAAND).

The team supports children and young people with autism and intellectual disability who present with additional mental health, emotional and/or behavioural needs.

We provide comprehensive assessment and treatment, as well as providing and consultation to assist local teams in planning for the future care of the service user.

The postholder will contribute to the clinical work of the team, service development and work closely with the Principal Clinical Psychologist to ensure the smooth running of the team's consultation pathway.


The key roles include:


  • To assist practitioner psychologists in the delivery of a specialist applied psychology service in Neuropsychiatry (SCAAND)
  • To provide clinical work as required by the service, under the direct guidance, close clinical and professional supervision of a practitioner psychologist.
  • To assist in clinically related administration, conduct of audits, collection of statistics, development of audit and/or research projects, teaching and project work.
  • To work following clinical guidelines and the policies and procedures of the service, while closely supervised and regularly seeking help from clinical/professional supervisor or manager.


The Service for Complex Autism & Associated Neurodevelopmental Disorders (SCAAND) is a busy multi-disciplinary service, funded by NHS England, which sees over 160 new young people each year.

The service provides comprehensive assessment and evidence-based interventions to young people up to 18 years of age with ASD and associated disorders.

SCAAND consists of three outpatient streams and an intensive outreach stream (AID-IIT) that specialise in different presentations and that work closely together in providing a comprehensive service for young people with complex autism and their families.


The postholder will contribute to the clinical work of the team and service development, and will work closely with the Principal Clinical Psychologist to ensure the smooth running of the team's consultation pathway.

This will include supporting the organisation of multi-agency consultations, liaison with MDT clinicians, attending and recording clinical consultation discussions, completing the evaluation and maintaining the database.

The postholder will also be responsible for collecting routine outcome measures and to contribute to service evaluation, audit and research; and service development/planning.
