Key Duties

  • To implement, embed and facilitate a contextual understanding of academic regulations, policies, procedures, and systems for assuring the quality and standards of the University's awards within Schools.
  • To provide specialist and contextual advice, guidance and direction on quality assurance regulations, policies, and procedures including regular updates on change through formal and informal networks.
  • Work in partnership with Schools to support a wide range of quality assurance processes including programme approval and maintenance and revalidation in line with institutional expectations.
  • To act as an effective communications conduit between, Schools, Colleges, and other Professional Services staff in matters relating to the contextual landscape in which Cardiff University operates within and how feedback supports the continuous improvement of quality and standards policies and processes.
  • Take responsibility for the operational management of quality assurance activities as confirmed by the Head of Academic Quality and Standards.
  • To work with the Head of Education Governance and the Head of Academic Quality and Standards to evaluate and further develop education governance arrangements at School, College, and University level.
  • To act as Secretary to committees, Task and Finish Groups and/or subcommittees in competent areas, advising members on strategy, policy, and procedure, undertaking research, and writing reports as required.

  • To be engaged with ongoing personal and professional development including active engagement with appropriate sector groups to ensure that the University adopts best practice and is well informed of relevant sectorwide practice and developments.
  • Ensure that an understanding of the importance of confidentiality is applied when undertaking all duties.

  • Perform other duties occasionally which are not included above, but which will be consistent with the role.

Essential Criteria
Qualifications and Education

  • Degree/NVQ 4 or equivalent Professional membership/experience
Knowledge, Skills, and Experience

  • Specialist knowledge of quality assurance and enhancement in higher education gained in a related role
  • Ability to innovate and/or develop institutional policy in quality and standards in line with Institutional priorities
  • The ability to prioritise and make decisions while working across organisational boundaries in a complex organisation
  • Extensive knowledge and understanding of current policy and the climate in higher education both nationally and internationally; along with an understanding of the regulatory issues and current challenges relevant to higher education
Customer Service, Communication and Team Working

  • Excellent communication skills, both written and oral, with Ability to confidently communicate conceptually detailed and complex information effectively and professionally with a wide range of people across organisational boundaries
  • Proven ability to develop networks in order to contribute to long term developments and to be an active, supportive and encouraging participant in a team
Planning, Analysis and Problem solving

  • Evidence of ability to solve expansive problems using initiative and creativity; identify and propose both practical and innovative solutions
  • Evidence of excellent organisational abilities to prioritise and manage own workload.

Desirable Criteria

  • Postgraduate/Professional qualification
  • Successful experience of managing contracts with key partners/clients
  • Fluency in Welsh, written and oral

Additional Information

  • The College Quality Officer will likely be working extensively with the College of Biomedical and Lifesciences liaising with and advising education leads across ten diverse Schools.
