Description
Ref CC/ABC

Spending time with his family, being outdoors enjoying nature and being with animals (especially his pet Labrador) is what our delightful 15-year-old client loves to do best.

C is looking for a Support Worker to join his team to help him manage his athetoid cerebral palsy and severe dystonia.

C is a wheelchair user, non-verbal and is fully dependent on others for all activities of daily living.

The Role/Client:

  • C is looking for a Day Shift Support Worker to join his growing team to help manage his athetoid cerebral palsy, severe dystonia (which affects his movements) and respiratory difficulties (when he is unwell). C is a wheelchair user and he is moved using hoists and slings. All day shifts are 2:1 care and you will work alongside another member of the team.
  • C requires assistance with all activities of daily living including personal care, washing and dressing in the mornings and getting ready for bed. C has a blended diet and receives all fluids and medication via a PEG and Mickey Button. He suffers painful reflux from his feeding tube so this needs to be managed and monitored carefully. C is nonverbal and uses facial expressions and some Eye Gaze to communicate and is able to express his likes and dislikes to his family and team.
  • You will assist with the planning of daily educational and agerelated developmental activities.
  • You will follow his care plan to provide basic physiotherapyled exercises and positioning and assist with speech and language therapy and occupational therapy programs as advised by the relevant therapists.
  • You will accompany C to his swimming/hydrotherapy lessons with members of his family and attend medical appointments as required as well as family outings. You will also be required to assist with our clients' laundry and cleaning of his bedroom and equipment.
  • Full training in all aspects of our client's care will be given and you will be fully supported by his Case Manager.

About You:

  • You will have a minimum of 1 year's experience supporting a child/young person with complex needs.
  • You will be confident in manual handling, providing personal care and gastrostomy management.
  • You will be fun, energetic and a team player as well as kind, positive, reliable, and able to build a relationship of trust with our client and his family.
  • A driver able to drive our client's automatic adapted vehicle is essential. You will also need your own vehicle to travel to our client's home given the rural location.
  • You will be comfortable working around animals as our client has a friendly Labrador dog, and not suffer from pet allergies.
