This is an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic and committed psychologist/psychotherapist/family therapist to work with CASCAID, a specialist HIV Mental Health Liaison Team.


Applications are welcome from those with a professional background in either mental health nursing, occupational therapy or social work, with acquired qualifications and registration in a psychological therapy.


The post holder will need to demonstrate a holistic approach to HIV and mental health and have experience of working with diverse and sometimes marginalised client groups.


The post holder will provide specialist assessment and treatment for clients with complex mental health issues related to living with HIV.

This will include contributing to and providing advice during regular MDT meetings with other HIV healthcare professionals. Our main referrers are HIV clinics, medical inpatient wards, mental health community teams and addiction services.

For this role, we support and encourage training in Dual Diagnosis, Trauma-Informed Care; systemic and family practice, EMDR, evidence-based models of psychologically-informed practice, leadership and management training.


The post holder will ensure the delivery of care to a client group who are HIV positive and presenting with complex mental health needs and will need a thorough understanding of risk assessment.


The post holder will provide specialist psychological assessment and treatment to clients and link clients into appropriate services as necessary.

The post holder will participate in regular MDT meetings with other HIV healthcare professionals across LSL and Croydon, providing a psychologically-informed framework and ensuring an effective interface and continuity of care between disciplines and services,


The post holder will help foster a culture which improves mental healthcare for patients seen in physical health environments and physical healthcare for those seen in mental healthcare environments.


The post holder will contribute to training and raising awareness about HIV and mental health to Trust staff and other health professionals along an anti-stigma agenda, as well promoting regular HIV testing to at risk groups to mitigate against late diagnosis.


CASCAID (HIV Liaison) service, is a small multi-disciplinary team, comprising consultant psychiatrist, psychologist, mental health nursing staff, social worker and an administrator.

The service assists both mental health services and HIV services to support people who are living with HIV and a significant mental health problem.

Our approach is largely bio-psycho-social. We embrace diversity and tackle stigma.


We provide liaison, mental health and psychological assessment and treatment for people whose mental health problems are related to living with HIV.

About our locations


We have an office base at Reay House, Lambeth Hospital (zone 2) but see people in outpatient spaces across Lambeth, Southwark, Lewisham and Croydon, whether that be at their HIV treatment centre, or a SLaM outpatient location.

When required, home visits are arranged. We offer face to face or online appointments according to patient choice.

Maudsley Hospital (headquarters)
Our Trust headquarters is located at Denmark Hill less than 5 minutes from the train station (zone 2). It is anticipated that the office base will be moving to the Maudsley Hospital towards the end of 2023.

Our service covers the London Boroughs of Lambeth, Southwark, Lewisham and Croydon.

Job Purpose:


  • To provide a specialist psychology/psychotherapy/systemic psychotherapy service to clients of CASCAID (HIV Liaison Service) including specialist assessment, treatment, planning, implementation and monitoring of outcomes.
  • To contribute to, and provide advice during regular MDT meetings with other HIV healthcare professionals across LSL and Croydon, to ensure effective interface and continuity of care between disciplines and services.
  • To contribute to planning and delivering training programmes and teaching in relation to HIV awareness, addressing HIVrelated stigma; HIV mental health; health promotion and prevention.
  • To contribute to enabling other staff, service users and carers from diverse backgrounds to flourish by working to create a psychologically safe environment.
