Lewisham & Greenwich NHS Trust

Consultant Cellular Pathologist

Lewisham and Greenwich NHS Trust (LGT) was formed on 1st October 2013, following the merger of University Hospital Lewisham and Queen Elizabeth Hospital.

With a turnover of approximately £650 million, we provide medical, surgical, and emergency services to over 1 million people at Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Woolwich, University Hospital Lewisham, and a range of community settings in Lewisham, as well as some services at Queen Mary's Hospital in Sidcup.

We also provide a range of specialist services for South East London and beyond.

We are committed to supporting all our 7,000 staff as part of our drive to become a great place to work for everyone.

As a result, we have reduced our vacancy rates from a high of 17.5% in 2018 to 8.5% this year, and we're delighted that our staff retention is now in the top five in London.

Over the last year, our emergency performance has been among the strongest in London, despite our emergency departments being among the busiest in the capital.

Queen Elizabeth Hospital regularly achieves the fastest ambulance turnaround times in London.

The critical care unit in the hospital is one of the few in the country to meet the gold standard for consultant and junior doctor staffing.

University Hospital Lewisham has the largest stroke rehabilitation centre in the country and is one of the few in the country to offer opt-out HIV testing in the emergency department, ensuring that any patient who has a blood test is routinely screened for HIV

The Cellular Pathology laboratories are based at both hospital sites and are now part of the East and South East London Pathology Partnership with Barts and The London NHS Foundation Trust.

LGT provides a wide range of services which generates a broad and varied cellular pathology workload including specimens from dermatology, gynaecology, urology, lung, breast, and gastroenterology.

The department at QEH has full UKAS accreditation and has well-staffed laboratory and administrative services.

The laboratory performance in the regular NEQAS assessments is of a consistently high standard and there is an extensive immunohistochemical panel of antibodies available using the Roche Ventana system.

The department is a dedicated training centre for biomedical science students from the University of Greenwich and monthly teaching sessions are provided by consultants for both laboratory staff and university students within the department; participation in this teaching and training would be desirable.

consultants.

The appointee will benefit from a spacious, well-appointed office with an excellent microscope and facilities for photomicrography; full secretarial support is also provided.

Up-to-date reporting modalities such as digital dictation and voice recognition are available for use if desired.
