ASDA Requirements

Essential Requirements

  • NVQ Level 3 in pharmacy service skills and pharmaceutical service.
  • Be registered with the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC) and compliant with standards for pharmacy service. (current live registration and maintain ongoing)
  • Experience of working in a community pharmacy, ideally with experience of using Pharmacy Manager software
  • Working NHS Smartcard

Role Description

  • Complying with legal and professional requirements and Company SOP's
  • Delivering on all aspects of the Dispensing role including ordering medicines, labelling, dispensing, endorsing with appropriate claims
  • Delivering efficient dispensary operations and ensuring dispensing losses are minimised
  • Ensuring accurate handling and dispensing on all medicines
  • NHS and private
  • Carry out final checking of dispensed items whilst adhering to the companies standard operating procedures (SOPs).
  • To identify medicine related problems or queries and bring these to the attention of the pharmacist
  • Supervise the pharmacy technician(s) and wider dispensary team to ensure everyone is carrying out their duties correctly
  • Answer queries on the supply and availability of medicines as well as answering queries of a routine pharmaceutical nature and know when it is appropriate to refer a patient to the Responsible Pharmacist
  • Assist in the delivery of all pharmacy services where appropriate
  • Be able to provide advice on leading a healthy lifestyle.
  • Ensuring all customers and patients receive safe and accurate advice on medicines including OTC medication as required
  • With regards to stock control, ensure stock is received in accordance with SOP's, ensure stock is stored appropriately and safely and maintain reasonable stock levels within the dispensary.

You will be providing healthy lifestyle advice and health services to our patients through great conversations as well as delivering the technical aspects of the supply of medicines.


This is often a fast-paced environment in which you will interact with many different people and will be a core member of the pharmacy and healthcare team.


What you'll be doing day to day.
It's all about providing health advice through focussed conversations with our patients, whilst giving clear and accurate answers.


Your duties will include:


  • Tailoring conversations with every customer to ensure they leave your pharmacy feeling informed and confident about their healthcare needs.
  • Delivering the technical aspects of the dispensary whilst ensuring the safe supply of medicines e.g. ordering medicines, labelling, dispensing, endorsing and collection of prescriptions.
  • Complying with legal and professional requirements and accepted guidance on professional practice in Asda.
  • Seeking opportunities to engage with GPs and practice teams to promote services and items.
  • Delivering efficient dispensary operations and ensuring dispensing losses are minimised
