Description

An Early Years Practitioner is responsible for providing a friendly, caring, safe and stimulating environment for the children in their care and maintaining a positive attitude within the Centre.


Qualifiactions required:
SVQ Level 3, HNC Childcare or equivelant.


A Key Worker system is operated within each room at the Centre and through this role the Early Years Practitioner is responsible for establishing and maintaining a good, supporting relationship between the child, the parents and the Centre.


Teamwork and communication are essential for the smooth running of the centre and for the provision of activities suitable for each child's capabilities and level of understanding.


DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES:


  • Establish and maintain good relationships with all parents, and build a trusting rapport with the parents of your nominated children, giving daily feedback regarding their child, and encouraging effective two-way communication.
  • Respect the confidentiality of the information relating to the children, their parents, staff, and company business.
  • Foster and develop an atmosphere of mutual respect between all staff and children providing praise and encouragement to assist in their self-development.
  • Act in a sensitive manner when settling in new children or caring for children who are ill or upset.
  • Work as part of a team and be aware of your own and your team's strengths and weaknesses using your initiative where necessary.
  • Discuss any behavioural, developmental or learning concerns about a child with the senior team member in the first instance, and if appropriate, with the Deputy Manager/Centre Manager.
  • Be aware of multi-cultural and equal opportunity issues in all aspects of nursery provision.
  • Ensure the health and safety of children and colleagues at all times.
  • Be responsible for the maintenance of high standards of cleanliness and hygiene throughout the Centre, especially in the kitchen, dining room, changing and toilet areas.
  • Be responsible for the care and maintenance of toys and equipment.
  • Assist with the supervision of children's meals and snacks, ensuring that mealtimes are a social experience for all age groups. If a child refuses to eat a balanced meal, then an alternative should be prepared.
    NEVER allow a child to go through a full day without a nutritious meal, unless the child is unwell. In this situation a Deputy Manager/Centre Director should be consulted immediately and parents advised upon collection.
  • Respect and provide for children with medical or dietary needs. As required, staff will work with children with special needs and co-operate with parents and other professionals associated with them.
  • Ensure that daily registers are accurately completed daily for attendance and for signing out by parents, and ensure that daily communication diaries are completed (if applicable) for each child.
  • Record and report
    EACH accident or injury promptly and ensure that procedures are followed. If in doubt, advise the Deputy Managers/Centre Director immediately.
  • Attend Staff Meetings, Training Sessions, Events, Parents' Evenings or Social Evenings as part of the Company's overall objective to deliver the best possible childcare service.
  • Assist with work experience student or new employee training if required.
  • Ensure that the Company's Policies and Procedures are adhered to at all times.

JOB ACTIVITIES
̈ To contribute to the planning, preparation and delivery of high quality programme of activities which promote safe and stimulating play opportunities for children aged six weeks to fourteen years on a regular basis.

̈ To welcome and register children and parents/carers in a friendly, informative and reassuring manner.

̈ To establish good relationships with parents/carers, encouraging them to take an active interest in the care of their children.

̈ To be aware of and sensitive to individual children's needs and to seek as far as possible to meet their needs through a programme of play opportunities.

̈ To have a working knowledge and understanding of Poppyview Family Centre policy and practice procedures, including local and national documents.

̈ To participate in appropriate/necessary training and or Continuing professional Development courses.

̈ To actively promote anti-racist, anti-sexist and non-discriminatory attitudes through all practice in the childcare centre with children and parents using the service.

̈ To inform the Deputy Manager/Centre Director of any concerns about individual children and to have clear understanding of current child protection procedures.

̈ Where appropriate ensure that toys are safe, clean and repairs required reported.

̈ To prepare and provide a healthy snack for children where required and discussed with person in charge and parents.

̈ To administer first aid as appropriate, and/or know who is the first-aid officer.
