This is your opportunity to coordinate two high performing and unique technical teams within the Royal College of Art.
The Additive Manufacturing department and Future Materials Workshops are both aligned to the college's commitment to the STEAM agenda and you will play a key role in the continued development of these resources.
You will also support the Technical Manager for Technology in creating new mechanisms of support for the RCA's portfolio of Research Centres, a fast growing stakeholder group within the Royal College of Art.

What are we looking for?
- Specialist knowledge of one of the following technical processes; 3D CAD, Additive Manufacturing, Desktop 3D Printing, 3D Scanning, Casting & Construction, Mould Making, Fabrication of Composite Materials or Bio Materials
- Experience managing a service provision or technical resource including project workflows, equipment and staffing.
- Knowledge of Health and Safety issues and Risk Assessment procedures for a technical environment.
- Excellent organisational, time management and planning skills with the ability to prioritise as appropriate.
What will the job involve?
Coordinating small teams of technical specialists.
Ongoing improvement of service provision to all users.
Setting clear objectives and monitoring performance.
Recruitment and development of new technical staff.
Researching, purchasing and installing new equipment.
Project management and regular problem solving.
Peer-to-peer learning with other technical specialists and academic staff.
Working closely with dedicated research teams.

The Additive Manufacturing department has a selection of high end industry standard printing processes including SLA, Power, FDM, Polyjet, Wax.
Both processes are run as a bureau service however face to face student engagement and instruction are key to the success of this team.
The Future Materials Workshops comprise a timeline of fabrication processes.From traditional and often complex mould making using plaster, silicone, jesmonite, wax and other materials, to composite and smart materials, through to our recently opened bio materials lab spaces.
This is an extremely high demand area and the team operates in a fast paced and very much hands-on environment.
The College has built a new Rausing Research and Innovation building at Battersea South which houses a range of experimentation and workshop facilities, which includes a specialist Laboratory for bio-material processes.
