The Role
Following the successful appointment of our new Head Grounds Person, we now have an opportunity for a Deputy Head Grounds Person to join our grounds team.
This is an exciting time to join the Somerset Team. As 2023 T20 champions, we are driven to exceed our recent achievements in the 2024 season. Our grounds team are key to our success and the role of Deputy is pivotal.
The role's main purpose is to provide support to the Head Grounds Person in all areas of grounds management and leading the grounds team. On a day-to-day basis you'll be supporting with (and leading on when necessary) the preparation and maintenance of playing surfaces, outfield and practice facilities at the CACG and TVSC to first class standards, use of covers, set up of practice nets and facilities, machinery up keep and supervision/direction of the team in all tasks.
Amongst other essential criteria, you'll need to have an NVQ Level 2 in Turf Science (or equivalent) and/or demonstrable levels of experience, PA1/PA6 certificates, understanding and practical experience of what is required to prepare and maintain first-class cricket pitches,
experience in supervising/leading others in a team, effective planning, organisation and time-management skills.
You have a passion for cricket pitches and sports turf maintenance, which is supported by your innovation and desire to continually improve. You are a team player, with a positive, proactive attitude who can motivate and inspire others to develop and achieve excellence. You are honest, loyal and reliable with the commitment to building good working relationships with colleagues.
You will need to be eligible to work in the UK.
