Description
Leadership and management of Lung function and Sleep department including quality service provision, workforce, health and safety, departmental policy, service review/ development and budgetary responsibilities.
Management of respiratory and sleep scientists and other registered healthcare professionals within Lung Function & Sleep including all aspects of staff development, recruitment, and performance management
Accountable for providing an effective and efficient service to the highest possible quality within the resources available and to develop and adjust these facilities to meet the needs of patients and all staff groups.
Provide support to the lung function & sleep department in a technical role involving both clinical and research aspects of the service.
Teaching and training provision of all aspects of respiratory and sleep science to medical, nursing, and technical staff.

Operational leadership of the lung function & sleep department.
Management of departmental workload, including design, development and implementation of staff rota's ensuring capacity is optimised, responding to workforce and workload issues daily.
Overseeing, allocation and co-ordination of lead roles for areas of service within Lung Function & Sleep ensuring quality of service is maintained.
Overall responsibility for ensuring that safe systems of work are practised in the Lung function & sleep department and that all Health and Safety legislation, other relevant legislation and Trust policies are adhered to.
Responsibility for undertaking risk assessments and reporting all significant problems and identified hazards to the Respiratory speciality management group meetings.
Undertaking all aspects of staff recruitment, selection, appointment, and employment
Undertaking appraisal of physiology/ scientific and nursing staff within Respiratory Physiology
To identify development and training needs of all technical and scientific staff in conjunction with the Lead for Training and Development
To communicate and negotiate with staff at all levels, within the Trust (medical, nursing, technical and administrative colleagues, Consultant medical staff and senior management) and external stakeholders as required.
Development of business cases related to Respiratory Physiology department when required based on analysis of workload activity/ new service developments and evidence-based practice.
Undertake all audit and governance roles within lung function services.To maintain databases and records and to produce timely and relevant statistical reports on workload.
Active participation in the MDTs or Respiratory meetings.
Management, monitoring, and audit of complaints to the physiology service.
Responsible for managing proportion of lung function & sleep budget, relevant to operational management including attendance at monthly budget meetings with finance, authorised signatory of expenditure and expenses.
Active participation in the cross-site Trust meetings for Sleep and respiratory physiology ensuring cross site engagement and promoting best practice.
