  • Job status: This is a permanent post within the Channels Function of our Communications team
  • Location: Edinburgh office (with flexible work environment and ability to work from home too)
  • The starting salary for this post is: £27,736 £30,000 (dependent on experience)


The main purpose of the
Web Officer role is to manage the content, analytics and general improvements across our website.

You'll work with teams and content that covers a wider range of seafood industry topics.

You could be supporting delivery of fishing safety content which aims to help save lives, working on publishing a response to a challenging industry reputation issue or helping to produce a creative solution which presents some of our industry data and insight in an exciting format.


The main dimensions of the role are:

  • Leading and delivering all activities across the website via our CMS (Umbraco) and our DMS (Document Management System).
  • Ensuring the structure and content of our site is informed by customer/stakeholder needs, to deliver against our team and corporate objectives.
  • Acting as the internal guardian of 'all things web' delivering exceptional user experiences for external stakeholders and Seafish staff.
  • Working with wider Channels function and Communications team to plan and deliver new web content and constantly monitor/optimise performance.
  • Supporting consolidation and development of our eMarketing platform.

Key accountabilities will be:


  • Ensuring all content added to website is accessible, by supporting wider efforts to ensure accessibility across entire site is compliant with legislation (2018), and to WCAG AA 2.2 standards.
  • Championing clear process, so colleagues know how to request content changes.
  • Working to consolidate CMS users across the organisation.
  • Developing monthly reporting structure (and output), that provides insight/intel for site and content performance.
  • Spotting, raising and managing helpdesk issues/bugs with agency partners, as necessary.
  • Managing Umbraco (CMS) upgrades.
  • Organising any necessary training with agency partners.

You will be responsible for:


  • Creating, maintaining and managing an overarching project plan for website work for 23/24 financial year, which includes all content needs and development work.
  • Managing, developing and nurturing relationships with colleagues across all teams.
  • Managing daily workload with support and input from Manager, team members, other colleagues and thirdparty suppliers/agencies.
  • Representing Seafish brand as positively and engagingly as possible, both internally and externally.
  • Reviewing, costing and processing all agency budget/project requirements.
  • Auditing existing web content regularly, to provide direction/insight for any structural changes.

Your essential working relationships will include:

  • Wider Communications team members; directly.
  • The Director of Communications and Engagement providing reports as required.
  • Internal colleagues across the organisation, directly and with support from Marketing Manager
  • Channels.
  • External stakeholders; indirectly, through delivery (promotion) of engagement activities, comms, activity via our website.
  • Creative/Digital agencies; directly, to brief and innovate on development of website.

The Web Officer post sits within our wider Communications team which is made up of two functions: a comms focus on content creation and calendar management, and a channels focus on platform management and data/insight.

This role is in our Channels function.
