About us

The Operational Research Society is the home of the operational research and analytics community. We are a member-led organisation supporting professional operational researchers across industries and academia. We promote the understanding and use of operational research in all areas of life, including industry, business, government, health, and education. The society is a registered charity which does everything from helping OR specialists push the boundaries of the discipline through publications and events to undertaking outreach work aimed at helping everyone from business leaders to schoolchildren find out about the benefits of OR.


Responsibilities and Duties

Event Planning and Support

  • Work with the team to understand and help plan the annual event calendar and requirements of each event.
  • Take responsibility for the project management of planning Careers Open Day, Beale Lecture and our Blackett Lecture, creating the initial plan and engaging with stakeholders involved through the entire event process.
  • Working in depth on the Eventsair software, creating new events including registration pages, design, and administrative requirements.
  • Working with the Education Manager on Careers Open Day and managing the logístical aspects of the event.
  • Play a key role in events committee meetings arranging and attending them, working closely with key stakeholders, and writing the meeting minutes.
  • Managing our webinar programme, identifying new speakers through our stakeholder network and coordinating speaker requirements.
  • Playing a pivotal role in helping organise the annual conference, particularly delegate management, including the creation of conference handbooks, chasing and taking payments over the phone, delegate packs, booking couriers, name badges, venue set up, seeking sponsors and exhibitors, reporting, and any other relevant tasks as they occur in the run up to and after the event.
  • Help manage and oversee events on the day(s), including set up, registrations, communicating with staff, volunteers, dealing with queries.

Partnerships
& Relationship management

  • Management of Regional Groups across the UK helping them plan local events and utilising local partnerships.
  • Developing and nurturing strong working relationships with corporate partners and nonprofit charities.
  • Maintaining relationships with previous sponsors at events and other charities/ organisations involved with previous events.
  • Generating sponsorship and member leads from within the OR society and also external partnerships.
  • Supporting the development of a Legacy giving campaign alongside the marketing team and using this to plan future legacy events.
  • Collate market research on potential partners that can help promote our events

£27,000.00-£29,000.00 per year
