  • PermanentSiemens is creating its first UK based Rail Industry Hub on the outskirts of Goole in the East Riding of Yorkshire. With an initial contract to assemble nearly 50 trains to service the Piccadilly line on the London Underground we are starting to recruit up to 300 skilled technical and support colleagues at in our Manufacturing Facility.


In the near future follow-on work is expected to bring this number of trains into the hundreds, along with an expansion on the site into maintenance and overhaul activities displaying a long-term commitment to the area and growth in employment and career opportunities.

We are planning on holding assessment centres over the period 25th to 27th July 2023.

If successful you will have an expected start of the 2nd October 2023 with an intensive period of local training at our Goole Facility, it will also require you to undertake a period of type training at our twin facility in Vienna, this will take place during the period January to March 2024.


These roles will be initially recruited on a Day shift basis, with an expectation that shift patterns will be introduced as production moves towards normal levels of output.


You will make an impact:


  • Being the first line leader for your multiskilled team, responsible for their safety, training, performance, and development.
  • Involved in carrying out productive activity within your skill set, maintaining your team's currency in a variety of tasks as required by our Production and Competency Management Systems.
  • Having a strong background in either Mechanical or Electrical production, overhaul or maintenance activities in a similar safety focussed industry or sector, you will have experience of being, or standing up as a, supervisor of a small team of fitters and testers.
  • Ensuring that your stage of production is working safely, effectively, and efficiently, whilst supporting the teams around you to ensure the Production Plan is achieved or exceeded.

You will demonstrate:


  • Experience of being a first line leader within production, overhaul or maintenance facility.
  • Hold currency within your specialisation in an operational area of a manufacturing, overhaul or maintenance facility.
  • Electrical Fitter
  • Electrical Tester, or
  • Mechanical Fitter
  • An ability to read, interpret and explain technical drawings
  • Experience of working within a regulated industry within specialisation.
  • Experienced in the use of ERP production systems, preferably SAP

It would be beneficial to have:

  • Rail industry or automotive manufacturing, overhaul or maintenance experience
  • Relevant HND/HNC or suitable apprenticeship.
  • Lean/Change/CI Management understanding
  • Crosscultural/crossborder experience
