Description
St Richards Hospital, is a 450-bed district general hospital situated in Chichester. It is part of University Hospitals Sussex NHS Foundation Trust. Dietetic specialities include acute, diabetes, gastroenterology, paediatrics, bariatrics, nutrition support, eating disorders and community Dietetics. We train student dietitians for A, B and C placements.

We are committed to training and professional development. There are excellent IT facilities in all offices and laptops for each dietitian. Main Responsibilities Undertake dietetic assessments of referred patients taking into account medical, social, cultural and psychological factors. Calculate nutritional requirements based on the interpretation of anthropometry, biochemistry, clinical condition and other physical parameters.

Determine and prescribe the appropriate dietetic treatment and develop treatment plans.

Advise on the prescription of borderline substances such as nutritional supplements, tube feeds and vitamin and mineral supplements and liaise with appropriate agencies about monitoring.

Provide nutrition and dietary advice which is based on current evidence and is appropriate to the patients medical, social, cultural and psychological factors.

Provide training to patients, carers and staff on enteral feeding (EF) equipment, register patients on Nutricia Homeward system prior to discharge and order equipment/appropriate ancillaries for EF patients.


Negotiate change with patients to enable them to achieve targets, overcoming barriers to change including dietary, environmental, social and psychological factors.
