You will be working on 'closed circuit' cooling water systems (demineralized water, chilled water etc).

The Role:

You will be responsible for designing complete mechanical services systems and managing several design projects.

You will be coordinating the plant design layout in collaboration with the CAD Pipework Engineer (AUTOCAD Plant3D) and specifying all mechanicalcomponents associated with mechanical services system such as cooling water; chilled water; and piped gases (e.g.

compressed air, piped laboratory gases etc.) including services panels. The work will require significant technical expertise regarding coolingplant technology and pipework systems.

Excellent communication and presentation skills are required to work in a multi-stakeholder environment working across other Design Groups and the Infrastructure Operations team as 'internal clients'.

Your duties andresponsibilities are as follows (but not limited to):

  • Lead and act as design Project Manager for your projects.
  • Develop the Process and M&E design specification of large packaged Plant kit (e.g. Adiabatic Coolers, Chillers, Compressors etc.).
  • Specify all pipework and fittings including all types of valves, filters etc.
  • Coordinate all components into the Plant layout design with the CAD Pipework Engineer.
  • Produce P&IDs; Process Narratives; Control Philosophies and undertake Technical and Economic assessment work and optioneering workshops for schemes.
  • Produce and maintain mechanical engineering schedules for all kit.
  • Carry out hydraulic design modelling using PIPEFLOW software.
  • Act as Mechanical Design Engineer for all HAZOP studies and contribute to other safety studies as required (e.g. FMEA's).
  • Carry out and upkeep Basis of Design and CDM Designer Risk Assessments work.
  • Actively contribute to developing the departmental technical guidance notes.

Andthey turn what they find into work that changes the world around us. What could you achieve with the world-leading facilities and experts of one of Europe's largest research organisations by your side?

Join us and discover what's possible.

About The Science and Technology Facilities Council (STFC)

As one of Europe's largest research organisations, we ask the biggest questions in the universe to find answers that change the world around us.

We seek understanding. We're proud of the impact we make. And we're committed to helping build a globally competitive,knowledge-based UK economy. Being part of all this means contributing to work that pushes boundaries and creates possibilities. You'll work with, and learn from, true experts. Whatever your role, you'll be free to question, and encouraged to share ideas.

And,in a positive and supportive culture, you'll discover just what a difference you can make when you're equipped and inspired to excel.

We're a place where curious minds thrive.

Not bound by profit, we explore ideas that others don't, ask questions that others won't, and discover answers that others are not equipped to find.

And, alongside Mars landings and black holes, we also explore diverse, international projects in everything from science and engineering to computing and technology.

Whether it's at the cutting edge or behind the scenes, our work is intellectually challenging. It's very often ground-breaking. And it's endlessly, irresistiblyfascinating.
