Purpose of Post.

  • Ensure that the people of Gwynedd are at the centre of everything we do.
  • Assist the Leader and the Nursery's Manager to transfer care of a high standard for each child who attends Plas Pawb nursery, ensuring that their physical, emotional, social, intellectual, creative and developmental needs are met.

Main Duties

  • Assist in the planning and implement an appropriate programme of activities for children in cooperation with the Nursery Manager and other staff, including students and apprentices. All activity programmes will be presented through the medium of Welsh.
  • Deputise for the leader or deputy manager to provide a high standard of care, ensuring that the physical, emotional, social, intellectual, creative and developmental needs of the children are met.
  • Open and close the nursery and also deputising to the leader or deputy manager during the start/ end of day, break times and lunch, and when the Leader is having non contact time, is on training or is ill.
  • Possess a full understanding and implementation of the Nursery's recordkeeping system and manage the observing and recording of each child's individual development using the key worker system within the designated childcare room.
  • Work closely with leader to put onepage profiles in place and putting ALN procedures in place for the children by offering appropriate support and assistance in order to ensure that every child with additional needs has the same opportunities as his/ her peers to enjoy and benefit from the nursery's activities. Responsibility to report and record the process of observation and assessment of children.
  • Ensure that a child with additional needs is fully included in all aspects of the Nursery's work, adapting the resources and activities where necessary.
  • Ensure that play areas, inside or outdoors, are safe, happy and caring environments that encourage children to play freely.
  • Assist to provide a highquality service that meets with the needs of each child who attends the nursery, ensuring that due consideration is given to nationality, culture, race, religion, language and disability.
  • Plan side by side with the Manager and work alongside staff to ensure a provision with a range of stimulating equipment, activities and displays both inside and outdoors, that are relevant to the ages and needs of the children.
  • Keep in touch with parents/carers and encourage participation in their child's placement at the nursery and their child's development.
  • Respect and follow routines for infants and small children who attend the nursery as outlined by their parents/carers.
  • Assist with the collection service that collects children from schools etc.
  • Ensure the provision of a healthy balanced diet for each child who attends the nursery to include food preparation, assist with feeding the children, ensure that mealtimes are social events and clearup following meals.
  • Follow all policies and procedures noted by Gwynedd Council and Plas Pawb Nursery.
  • Be familiar with following the National Minimum Standards for full day care as outlined in the Care Inspectorate Wales (CIW) registration guidelines.
  • Responsible for protecting and promoting each child's welfare at the nursery, in accordance with the All Wales Child Protection Guidelines.
  • Ensure operational knowledge of the principles and objectives of the Flying Start project and Childcare Offer
  • Foster good working relations and an understanding of external agencies and those in other professional fields who are involved in the development and care of individual children.
  • Responsibility for continuous personal development by attending relevant training courses and securing the latest information regarding legislation and regulations relevant to the post.
  • Attend weekly team meetings and take part in individual monthly meetings and annual evaluations with the nursery Manager or Leader
  • Assist in the nursery's daily domestic management, including ensuring that the building is kept secure, safe and clean at all times.
  • Ensure that specified childcare tasks are undertaken to the expected standards, to include assisting the children with feeding, changing their clothes and toileting, to include nappy changing; maintain high standards of hygiene at all times; comfort and give warmth to a sick child; and report regarding any signs of illness or injury, or concerns regarding abuse.
