Costs Advisor

This role offers an excellent opportunity to work within a dedicated Costs Team on large loss multi-track claims and deal with high value claims for costs.

This role is based in our Bolton / Manchester offices and may also include:

  • assisting the Lead Costs Lawyer and other Costs Lawyers / Senior Costs Draftspersons on high value claims arising from catastrophic or other life changing injuries;
- assisting with strategic litigation;
- other activities that enhance and develop Keoghs profile in the complex injury market space


Key Accountabilities

  • The Costs Fee Earner will be responsible for their own caseload of high value costs claims arising from multitrack claims.

The Costs Fee Earner will be required to:
- review the background facts & circumstance of the claim
- assess & value the costs claim presented
- prepare a settlement strategy and advice to the client (with guidance and assistance from senior team members where required)
- thereafter progress each file from receipt of instructions to resolution dealing with all aspects of drafting, negotiating and reporting
- capture and complete the settlement data and feedback any interesting or unusual features of the case / settlement to senior team members


Opportunities to conduct advocacy will be available if desired and the Costs Fee Earner will benefit from mentoring & training from senior team members.

The role may also require the individual to undertake additional tasks set by the Lead Costs Lawyer as a development opportunity in order to enhance their own skill set, experience and knowledge.


Experience, Skills and Qualifications

  • Qualified solicitor, Costs Lawyer or experienced Law Costs Draftsperson
  • A strong knowledge of relevant costs law and principles
  • A keen eye for detail and high level of analytical skills
  • A willingness to develop existing skills and attributes
  • Positive, confident and enthusiastic
  • Excellent listening, verbal and written communication skills
  • Excellent client care skills
  • Ability to prioritise work, keep to deadlines and work under pressure
  • Ability to win the trust and confidence of others
  • Ability to make decisions swiftly but seeking support & assistance where needed from senior team members
  • Ability to anticipate problems and identify solutions
  • Ability to maintain concentration
  • Driven to achieve
  • Excellent IT Skills including a good knowledge of excel
