An opportunity has arisen for a receptionist within the Neurosciences Care Group at Denmark Hill.

We are looking for an enthusiastic and motivated individual with good communication and interpersonal skills to join our team as receptionist on Charles Polkey Ward.


There will be a high level of contact with patients, relatives and colleagues from all professions and you will be expected to provide clerical and administrative support to the nursing team.


We are looking for someone who enjoys a challenge and who is able to work as part of a team as well as able to use their initiative.

You will need to be flexible, assertive, diplomatic and reliable. Excellent customer service skills are essential as is the ability to communicate effectively.


You will need to be able to work in a calm, logical and methodical way and be able to multi-task whilst dealing with frequent interruptions.

Administration:


  • To work within the framework of King's Behavioural Standards / Values and King's Promise.
  • To implement local policies and practice where required, in accordance with Trust policies.
  • To maintain an organised and tidy reception area.
  • To ensure that medical records are available for patients admitted to the ward, notes are tracked in accordance with Trust policy.
  • To coordinate transport arrangements.
  • To admit, transfer and discharge patients from the system.
  • To record/update/retrieve data using Trust computer systems and any new systems as they are introduced, to acceptable data quality standards.
  • To ensure that all patient demographics are checked and updated to meet recognised data quality standards.
  • To be responsible for establishing and maintaining an effective stock control system. This is to include placing orders via Oracle/KFM Service Desk.
  • To provide cover in other units or on other wards on ad hoc basis as required in the event of annual leave, sickness etc.
  • To help with the training of new members of staff as appropriate.

Communication:


  • Act as a first line contact for patients, relatives and visitors to the ward.
  • To ensure maintenance of good relationships, communications and teamwork with all disciplines within the department and other departments of the hospital maintaining confidentiality at all times.
  • To answer telephone enquiries within the agreed time in line with the Trust greeting policy.
  • To report any adverse incidents or complaints to the Senior Nurse
  • To be polite, courteous and aware of noise levels at all times.
  • To liaise with external agencies (i.e. GPs, District Nurses, etc.) as required.
  • Build and maintain a customerfocused, patient
- focused approach in interactions with internal staff and external customers including patients, carers, family members.

  • Participate in training program to develop a basic skill set that supports service delivery.
  • Ensure all statutory mandatory training requirements are met.
  • Agree performance objectives and participate in regular performance appraisals.

General:


  • The post holder has a general duty of care for their own health, safety and wellbeing and that of work colleagues, visitors and patients within the hospital, in addition to any specific risk management or clinical governance accountabilities associated with this post.
  • To observe the rules, policies, procedures and standards of King's College Hospital NHS Foundation Trust together with all relevant statutory and professional obligations.
