Applications are invited for a full-time (10 Programmed Activities) Associate Specialist as part of the Thrombosis & Haemostasis Service at King's College Hospital (based at the Princess Royal Hospital and Denmark Hill sites).


The post holder will be working within the multi-disciplinary Thrombosis Team (on both Denmark Hill and Princess Royal sites) to deliver high quality care for patients with Venous Thromboembolism (VTE) and those requiring anticoagulation.

They will support the VTE Clinic and strive to improve outcomes for VTE patients. They will have responsibilities for VTE prevention as well as the Anticoagulation Service.

They will be required to play an active role in the general workload of the VTE Exemplar Centre, while having a significant commitment to teaching and training of junior staff and to research.

In addition, there is a focus on translational research within the centre, with collaborations with the departments of Obstetrics and Gynaecology, Liver and General Medicine within King's College Hospital and the Institute of Pharmaceutical Science (IPS), King's College London.

There are currently three research fellows based within the centre.


Applicants are required to be on the GMC Register, and have both clinical and laboratory experience in Haemostasis and Thrombosis.


The King's Thrombosis Centre, based within the Department of Haematological Medicine, is a clinical academic unit, providing clinical and laboratory services within King's College Hospital.

The King's Thrombosis Centre was identified as the first NHS Venous Thromboembolism (VTE) Exemplar Centre by the Department of Health (DH) as part of the Chief Medical Officer's initiative to promote best practice in the prevention of VTE.

There is a strong emphasis on multi-disciplinary team-working within the centre, with doctors, nurses, pharmacists and biomedical scientists contributing to the innovative and wider-ranging clinical service provided in VTE prevention, diagnosis, management, and aftercare.
