Description

The DSL is part of a long-standing tradition of excellence in the world-wide networks of more than 140 schools abroad.

All are independent schools accredited and supported by the Federal Republic of Germany.

The Science Technician will support the teaching staff, particularly in the preparation and cleaning/clearing of lesson materials (i.e. science experiments) and undertake administrative tasks when requested.

The Science Technician will also supervise andsupport our IB students with their experiments for the internal assessment (IA) Extended Essay.


_Duties and Responsibilities_

  • To ensure the efficient preparation and organisation of equipment for lessons as required
  • To clean equipment and laboratories after each lesson and any chemical spillage when they occur
  • The preparation and delivery of apparatus requested by the science teaching staff and setting it out
  • Storing chemical stocks in an orderly and safe manner
  • Undertaking minor repairs where feasible
  • Making up standard laboratory solutions within health and safety guidelines
  • Under guidance, becoming familiar with the Health and Safety implications of all laboratory techniques and chemicals used and advising staff where necessary
  • Assisting teaching staff and pupils in practical work when required
  • Working in cooperation with teachers to ensure the smooth and safe running of all aspects of the department
  • To support teaching staff and pupils during lessons and also to assist supply teachers in the setting up of equipment
  • To assist in preparing lesson materials in other departments from time to time
  • To liaise with caretaking staff regarding any gas/fume problems that may occur
  • Upkeep of training records and CLEAPPS requirements
  • To assist in ensuring the safe conduct of pupils in the department
  • Ordering stock and lab equipment

Skills and Experience

  • Graduate in Sciences
  • Working in a school environment
  • Good ICT/organisational skills. Microsoft Office
  • Good listening skills
  • Organising their time and working to deadlines, i.e. school lessons and projects
  • Excellent record keeping and documentation, information retrieval
  • Ability and interest in technical problem solving
