Salary:
£37,074 - £42,207 Plus market supplement of 10% until April 2024.

Location:

Contract:
Permanent.


The main purpose of the role is working as a member of the Specialist Technical Support Team and providing some local supervision of Level 2 work colleagues as required, contributing to an efficient and effective customer service, ensuring a quality end to end ICT Service for West Mercia Police.

This role requires good knowledge and experience working with SQL databases, high availability and data connections.

As part of the role, you'll be involved in project as well as operational work and have access to training opportunities in order to learn new technologies and skills.

Furthermore, people management and wider ranging knowledge/experience in other technical areas may also be beneficial.

Specific skilled areas:


  • Knowledge of MS SQL Server 2012/2014/2016/201
  • Implement and maintain database backups, index rebuild/defragment, and database statistics tasks
  • SQL Server Installation, Upgrades, Migrations and Configuration
  • Install database software service packs and cumulative updates as necessary
  • Maintain database documentation as required
  • Maintain and administer database security access
  • Perform database Adhoc backups and restores
  • Troubleshoot and resolve database connectivity issues
  • Follow problem management processes to troubleshoot and resolve recurring issues
  • Understanding of High Availability and Disaster Recovery, including working experience of Database Mirroring, Failover Cluster Instances, SQL Always On Availability Groups (AG) and WSFC
  • Knowledge and experience of sizing, capacity planning and benchmarking (e.g. CIS), backup, recovery and performance tuning
  • Proactively monitor and respond to MSSQL database alerts generated by third party

Other desirable areas:


  • Experience with Data Warehousing and associated connections, processes and principles (Datastage or other ETL solutions)
  • Experience with Windows Server and Microsoft roles and features
  • Oracle database technical experience
  • Cryptography and security principles
  • Security threats and mitigations
  • Cloud / Microsoft Office such as: DNS, Azure, Power BI, Migration and administration.)
  • It would be desirable for you to have some people management experience.
  • Strong communication skills
  • Experience working collaboratively in a team environment and independently
  • Knowledge of ITIL Service Management

This role will be part of an on call rota and additional allowances will be paid. **This is a hybrid working role.
