Description
The Special Collections Museum is the university museum of Manchester Metropolitan University and is located within All Saints Library.

It is an Accredited Museum and houses wide-ranging collections and archives which span the University's historic roots to its digital present.

It is a major resource for teaching, learning and research at Manchester Met, as well as welcoming general visitors to our exhibitions and Reading Room.

A proportion of the museum's collections are not yet catalogued online.

We're looking for someone to assist in ensuring the collections are fully documented for internal collections management purposes and also catalogued and discoverable to students and researchers.

You will be a valued member of the team, working on a specific project focussed on expanding and enhancing access to our collections by cataloguing the items onto the CALM database.

This is a fixed term post, 35hours per week until 31st July 2023. Hybrid working is offered for this role.

Applications are open until 30th January 2023, and interviews will take place at the All Saints campus on 22nd February 2023.

  • We are looking for an experienced Documentation Officer with knowledge of museum documentation practice and standards, and practical experience and knowledge of using museum and gallery Collections Management Systems or DAMS, preferably CALM. The post will also require the linking of mages to the catalogue and the creation of associated metadata both in our CMS and on other digital platforms if required.
  • We are looking for someone who has a background in and/or good working knowledge of art and design history and has worked with either decorative art collections or with têxtile collections.
  • We also need someone with strong communication skills, who is able to plan and prioritise their work effectively and use digital technology.
  • Working methodically and accurately with appropriate attention to detail is of prime importance, as is experience of working well within a team.
  • You will need a Degree or equivalent qualification, or substantial relevant experience at a comparable level and relevant professional experience in an appropriate museum, gallery or heritage environment degree.

If you would like to apply, please take the time to consider the essential and desirable criteria in the job description and provide us with both a CV and a covering letter that demonstrates your suitability for the role.
