    We are seeking a Principal OHL Design Engineer to work for one of our clients based in the UK.

    Role category: High Voltage | Power

    Region: National

    Office/Site location: London / Warwick / Derby / Manchester / Motherwell / York

    This role will be responsible for all design elements of new build and refurbishment of overhead transmission lines in the UK.

    The successful candidate will have experience in the production of all designs, calculations, reports & drawings associated with the new build or refurbishment of overhead line projects from 11kV – 400kV, as well as experience in design of OHL with PLS-CADD and PLS-Tower.

    Key Responsibilities:

    • Taking ownership and leading the production of OHL detailed design packages.
    • Ensuring compliance of designs with client and national technical standards.
    • Leading a team of junior engineers on the production of design packages and supporting their technical development.
    • Preparing calculations and technical/equipment specification documentation.
    • Undertaking consultancy role on FEED stage projects, including production of technical reports and presentations.
    • Maintaining compliance to CDM Regulations and all other legal and regulatory requirements associated with the nature of Overhead Line works.
    • Managing the delivery of projects in accordance with Management Systems to meet time, quality, budgetary and health and safety targets.
    • OHL design with PLS-CADD in accordance with BS-EN 50341.
    • Analysis of OHL structures with PLS-Tower.

    Requirements:

    Qualifications:

    • BSc/BEng or MSc/MEng or equivalent in Structural or Civil Engineering.
    • Chartered or Incorporated Engineer professional status, or equivalent or working towards.

    Essential Experience:

    • Experience in PLS-CADD, PLS-Tower is essential.
    • Significant experience in HV OHL design in the UK electricity transmission & distribution sector.
    • Thorough knowledge and experience applying SPEN, SSEN, and / or National Grid Technical Specification, Technical Guidance Notes, Supplier Requirements and Design Handbooks relating to Overhead Line Design in the UK.
    • Thorough understanding of current Construction (Design & Management) Regulations, UK Health & Safety legislation, and Sustainability principles.

    Salary: £60,000 - £80,000 per annum, depending on experience.
