  • Position Summary
  • To work as a member of a team to assist in the service, maintenance, repair, and overhaul of locomotives, rolling stock, and equipment to predetermined specifications. You will also assist with the provision of stores activities and train maintenance. As part of a team, ensure that the fleet is serviced and maintained in a safe, efficient, and costeffective manner whilst constantly seeking to improve quality.
This position is based on a busy maintenance depot and all applicants would be expected to complete the following:

  • Assist with the provision of stores activities.
  • Perform set up and cleaning tasks.
  • Assisting skilled worker including train maintenance tasks
  • Labouring, Forklift Truck driving, steam cleaning and crane operating.
  • Systems top up.
  • Inventory checks
  • Comply with all depot protection procedures.
  • Understand and abide to safety notices, rules and regulations and follow safe working practices, H&SAWA. and COSHH
  • Work as part of a team, completing and/or assisting in any of the team's activities to ensure work is completed on time and to specification.
  • Will work with a team to ensure that the general housekeeping requirements are adhered to, and standards of cleanliness maintained and improved.
  • Will be capable of accepting training in other skills and carry out duties, e.g., forklift, road vehicle driving (if certified), attend callouts and breakdowns if required and trained as competent.

Person Profile/Experience:

  • No previous rail experience required as we will consider applicants that have worked on any of the following, but you must have experience in a stores, Labourer, or fitter's Mate position.
  • Proven experience and track record in a similar position
  • Proven experience in stores control
  • Good communications skills
  • Experienced in using computerised business tools (eg SAP, MS Office)
  • Ability to operate a counterbalance FLT and Reach truck is desirable but not essential.

Qualifications:

  • Forklift Truck License is desirable but not essential.
  • NVQ 2 or City & Guilds Level 2 is desirable but not essential.
