About the role:


This is an exciting opportunity to lead and motivate multi-disciplinary project teams, where you will be responsible for the management of a varied range of water and wastewater projects ranging from £250,000 to £5 million in value.

You will be responsible for developing solutions that meet the needs of customers and Thames Water, as well as ensuring that project deliverables are achieved promptly and within cost.

You will be managing a portfolio of projects throughout the entire projectlifecycle, from the outline conception through to detailed design, construction, and handover.


What you will be doing:


  • Managing a project portfolio across the London region
  • Leading a Health, Safety, and Environmental performance culture
  • Leading and managing the project teams to achieve objectives, milestones, and deliverables
  • Defining project plans and budgets that will successfully deliver the business outcomes and objectives
  • Identify, engage and manage direct and indirect stakeholders appropriately in the context of each project
  • Establish regular project review meetings covering the cost, delivery programme, RAID, and RAG statuses, escalating where appropriate
  • Produce monthly project status reports
  • Maintain projects cost models covering actual, accrual, and forecast costs
  • Manage issue resolution and strong working relationships with key stakeholders, both internal and external (e.g. project reviews and project kickoff meetings)
  • Manage and maintain project change (scope, time, budget) within the agreed target cost
  • Follow agreed governance standards across the lifecycles of the projects
  • Ensure all projects follow the agreed delivery framework

Other responsibilities for the role include:

  • Supporting the development and definition of the tender package(s), including the definition of the scope of work, to support the Procurement team through each stage of the tender process, and ensure the demanding timescales are met
  • Managing the 'route to consent' strategy for the project, highlighting program and project risks relating to consents required, including consideration of any potential 'early works'
  • Managing and assuring the performance of contractors to deliver project outcomes on time, cost, and quality
  • Management of risk issues and change in a fully transparent manner through effective reporting and escalation
  • Commercially managing all contract matters to achieve the optimal outcome for Thames Water

What skills are we looking for?:

  • Individuals ideally with experience within the construction or utility industries
  • Professionals who hold an engineering degree or have experience in an engineering project management role
  • Commercial and contractual awareness of project management work
  • Able to demonstrate a strong external customer service ethic
  • A proven track record of delivering projects
  • Excellent leadership and communication skills both internally and externally
  • Ability to collaborate with and influence senior colleagues
  • Budget management experience
  • Possess a passion for continuous professional development and an active approach to driving diversity within engineering at Thames Water
