Education Support Worker (ESW) within Student Services

37 hours per week, 36 weeks per year

£20,146 - £21,628 per annum

£15,995 to £17,172 per annum pro rata Term Time

The purpose of the ESW role is to support a discreet group of students, defined by the College as vulnerable young people.

This currently includes students that are currently or have been Looked After (L.A.C.).


You will join a busy team in our student services Wellbeing Team where you will support a caseload of students to engage well with their education and in doing so have the best chance of being successful on their course.

You will work closely with a widevariety of professionals including our internal College Wellbeing Team and teaching delivery teams as well as external Social Workers, Support Workers and Carers all from a number of different Local Authorities.


The role is focussed on co-ordinating and contributing to support meetings such as Personal Education Plan (PEP) meetings, communicating planned targets, actions and progress to teaching delivery staff, parents / carers, and managers as well as monitoringand supporting individual students to attain consistent attendance and performance.


The ideal applicants would have a level 2 or equivalent qualification and previous experience working in an educational, youth work or residential care setting.

The ability to work to timescales whilst maintaining an empathetic approach, having knowledge of L.A.C, Leaving Care and U.A.S.C. processes and an understanding of Mental Health difficulties students may face will be beneficial.

These roles include occasional home working as well as flexible site working.


Previous post holders have come from a variety of working backgrounds such as retail, voluntary youth work and temping roles and through the training and experience they've received in post, have progressed into a variety of careers such as teaching, residentialsupport, mental health support and more.

Knowledge of:

  • Education frame works including curriculum and assessment,
  • Social Care processes incl: Personal Education Plans (PEP) and LAC review
  • Look After Child (LAC) rights and entitlements
  • Trauma informed practices
  • Support systems for vulnerable learners
  • Mental health needs and support processes
  • Housing law
  • Student finance

Experience of:

  • Working in a large Further Education (FE) and Higher Education (HE) College,
  • Supporting students from a wide variety of cultural backgrounds and languages
  • Working collaboratively with a variety of professionals from Social Care, Teaching, Support Teams, Residential Support, Virtual Schools, Mental Health, Learning Support, Student Finance, Guidance Advisors, International Advisers, Interpreters and many more.

Mentoring

Structured individualised mentoring with your Line Manager to support your individual development in the role and beyond.

Shadowing


Opportunities to shadow the wide variety of professionals to see first-hand the role of each agency and professional in supporting our vulnerable learners.

Qualification


In year two of this role, you will have the chance to study a qualification relevant to your developmental pathway.
