3 months contract with Worcestershire County Council_


Job Summary:


  • To assist in the provision of an effective and efficient legal service to and for the Council and its components, providing information and advice and representation as required on legal matters, concerning the functions of the Child Care Team.
  • To advise on complex queries with regards to all aspects of elector franchise and distribute the Register of Electors.

Key Duties/Accountabilities (Sample):


  • Prepare court forms and issue proceedings.
  • Advise on and draft witness statements, documents for court and reports and proofread the same as appropriate.
  • To participate in the implementation, development and maintenance of Practice Management, office procedures, case management systems (Iken at present), standards and policies, as required.
  • To record promptly on (Iken) case management system all relevant case specific documentation and time worked, in accordance with the Divisions time recording system, when in operation
  • Review and advise on the amendment of chronologies and statements prepared by the Children's Services Department (CSD).
  • Liaise with CSD in obtaining instructions and advising on appropriate matters.
  • Attend Court with Counsel, as required.
  • Report to CSD/WCF case holder after Court hearings.
  • To monitor, advise on, case manage and assist in the drafting of s7, 37 and SGO (Special Guardianship Reports).
  • To carry a caseload and represent the Council in relation to simple and/or noncontentious matters; for example, agreed discharge of care orders, disclosure of documentation in care/private proceedings, renewal of interim orders.
  • To bring to the attention of the Head of ACE and Principal Solicitor any matter of which he, the Assistant Director of Legal and Governance or the Council's Monitoring Officer should be aware.

Essential Experience Required:


  • At least 6 month's experience of court procedures and processes and/or public childcare law/family work.
  • 6 months experience of working with a broad range of internal and external contacts and a busy office. environment.

Essential Qualifications Required:


  • A minimum of five GCSEs at grade C or above (or equivalent) including English Language.
  • Holds a Law Degree or equivalent or
  • Holds a paralegal qualification or is on the process of completing this e.g., CILEX level 6 course, Legal Practice Course or equivalent, if not already qualified.
  • Higher academic qualifications are desirable.
