At our GKN Filton site, we specialise in the design and manufacture of large complex structural wing assemblies, detailed metallic components and wing systems for a combination of both civil and military aircraft.

We have an new exciting and career defining opportunity for a Customs Compliance Specialist to join our growing Supply Chain team.

Reporting directly to the Logistics Group Leader, the Customs Compliance Specialist will be responsible for the management of customs clearance activities, compliance and problem resolution to support the supply chain and operations of the site.

This position will serve as the first line liaison between GKN and its Customs Brokers.

The development of process and identification of improvement activities will be a key objective for the Customs Compliance Specialist in addition to ensuring optimisation of Duty and VAT outgoings through the use of the correct Customs Regimes.

How You'll Contribute:

The Customs Compliance Specialist will be responsible for the following:

  • Resolves daily compliance and/or clearance issues with Customs brokers, 3rd party logistics providers and other stakeholders
  • Check and confirm the Tariff Classification, Valuation and Origin (Preferential or Non Preferential) status for all imports and exports.
  • Liaise with Export Control to ensure the inclusion of the correct licence information on export documentation.
  • Minimise the payment of Customs Duty or VAT by using the appropriate Customs Regimes.
  • Weekly/Monthly production of KPI's to support the Customs Compliance Manager.
  • Respond to requests for Information or Documentation to support government agency requests.
  • Escalate any issues to the Logistics Manager or Customs Compliance Manager as required.
  • Preparation and/or checking and submission of the quarterly Inward Processing Report.

Essential:


  • Extensive knowledge of Customs Compliance and Import/Export Regimes
  • Experience working with a 3PL (Third-Party Logistics) or 4PL (Fourth-Party Logistics)
  • Proficient in SAP
  • Ability to analyse and interpret data in MS Excel
  • Knowledge of Customs Legislation and Global Trade regimes
  • Understanding of the Customs Tariff, Classification, Valuation and Origin requirements

Desirable

  • An Apprenticeship or Degree qualified or a Membership of a International Trade Institution
  • Knowledge of customs regimes within the Aerospace Industry
  • Experience in a Project/Programme Management role
  • Experience in a Customs Compliance Management role
