The Role
We have a fantastic opportunity for a new Health, Safety & Environment Coordinator to join us in the Southwest. The role will be around various locations across the South West including Barnstaple, Tiverton, Bridgewater.


Main Purpose of Role

  • To be involved in associated activities relating to Health & safety and CDM
  • To ensure all accidents and incidents are properly recorded via our companys HSE management System, reported, investigated and acted upon from the arising results
  • To coordinate all new starters inductions, refresher training and E-Learning
  • To manage an audit process by which all company documentation including risk assessment, safe methods of work are regularly reviewed and updated as necessary and appropriate

Main Duties

  • To ensure all branches have compliant and have suitably trained individuals in the roles of chief fire warden, H&S Representative and First Aiders
  • To maintain the companies HSE Management System, ensuring regularly updated and once appropriate all incidents are closed out
  • To support the Health & safety function in managing company H&S policy, procedures and practise in accordance with obligatory and company requirements
  • To provide general Health, Safety, Environment and Facilities Management support to the business
  • Support the CDM process to ensure that all contract workers have completed the required documentation and that they are updated according to the required schedule
  • To ensure all Risk Assessment and Method Statements are received from the contractors and filed accordingly
  • To adhere to all Company Policies and Procedures
  • To maintain a proactive and positive Health & safety culture throughout the company
  • To liaise with HR to ensure all new starters have an E-Learning log in for the training portal and complete prior to their commencement of work
  • To ensure that all regularised company safety documents and reports are properly completed and acted upon within their associated time frames
  • To coordinate the safety representative meetings and support the development of safety representative across the business
  • To support management in the training of all appropriate staff in best practice procedures (e.g. manual handling, fire safety, appropriate use of plant). To support and orchestrate scheduled retraining as appropriate or necessary
  • To arrange scheduled display screen equipment (DSE) risk assessments and resolve associated training needs
  • To provide and arrange the installation of appropriate signage in accordance with legal requirement and company policy and/or procedure
  • To ensure all branches/departments display all health & safety related documents in accordance with legal requirement and company policy and/or procedure
  • To liaise with Human Resources on matters relating to staff training, special requirements and/or incidents
  • To liaise with the HSE Manager when proper and appropriate action or improvement is prohibited by individual or group objection or budgetary constraint
  • To provide and arrange the installation of appropriate fire signage in accordance with legal requirement and company policy and/or procedure. This must include the signing of all escape routes, fire barriers, fire fighting equipment and assembly points as a minimum
  • To continue the scheduled auditing of fire logs to include the regular testing of call points and emergency lighting, the inspection of fire fighting equipment and the recording of fire drills

Security

  • Liaise with HSE Manager in order to ensure appropriate levels of security are maintained both inside and outside opening hours.
  • Ensure all documentation is dealt with in accordance with company policy and procedure.
  • Ensure all information governed by the Data Protection Act is properly dealt with in line with legal requirement and company policy

General

  • Develop product knowledge by attending supplier training roadshows and any in house product training.
  • Support other Branches & Head Office, where appropriate in order to maximise Company performance.
  • Undertake any other reasonable duties as requested by Line/Senior Management to aid in the efficient and profitable trading of the Company.

Preferred Qualifications / Experience

  • A relevant understanding of current health & safety practice and procedure supported by appropriate qualification(s)
  • Experience and understanding of the merchant industry
  • A proven and strong IT background
