Personal Assistant for overnight support and to support in education

Contract:


  • Permanent (post probation period )
  • Part Time / Casual

Location:
Bridlington


Hours:
Daytime support required to facilitate access into education.

Overnight waking workers required for seven nights per week.

Regular working hours can be accommodated but flexible working would be beneficial.


Rate of pay from:
£ £15.00


About the family:

Two parents with two children require support overnight for eldest boy, aged 5, who requires 24 hour care. He is an absolute delight and loved by all who meet him.

He needs the general support of a normal vibrant five year old, but also has additional medical needs which require a fully trained and competent person to care for him at all times.


One worker per shift required to manage the over night healthcare needs of the little boy while he and his parents sleep.

The home is a modern property and the bedroom has ensuite facilities for the worker to use.

The little boy requires support in school.

Two competent people are required at all times to support the little boy play and participate in activities with his peers.

Personal assistants are required to facilitate the little boy into education several days a week

8/8:15am - 3:15/3:30pm.


Summary of duties:

Remain awake overnight to observe little boy and respond to healthcare needs whilst he is sleeping.

Supporting daily routines such as washing, dressing and toilet use.

Participate in play and developmental activities that are age appropriate when awake.

General tasks associated within the home to aid parents to keep a clean and tidy environment for the children.

Willingness to follow COVID precautions at all times and PPE to be worn as per families stipulation.


During the daytime, remain with the little boy at all times to facilitate his safety and play in a school /home setting.


Healthcare tasks:

Healthcare tasks may include suctioning via a tracheostomy, administering nebulisers and administering medications.

Develop knowledge of ventilator components and where equipment is kept in the house and school.

Undertake checks and follow risks assessments as and when required during the daytime when support is provided in school.

Two competent workers would be present with the little boy at all times to ensure his safety when outside of the home.


Successful applicant may also be required to do or assist with emergency tracheostomy changes, routine tracheostomy tape changes and ventilator care, including changes of pre-programmed settings on his ventilator as per the respiratory care plan.


In an emergency the little boy will require management of his ventilation as well as an advocate for his complex care needs if parents are not available.


The successful applicant will need to familiarise themselves with the little boys care plans and be able to action them when needed.


  • Respiratory care and escalation plan
  • Ventilation prescription and emergency numbers if an issue with the ventilator occurs.
  • Tracheostomy care's including suctioning and emergency tube changes
  • Basic life support and tracheostomy life support training
  • Administration of medication
  • Moving and handling considerations

Person required:

Experience working with young children is preferable.

Experience working in a healthcare setting is preferable but not essential.

Experience working in an education setting is preferable but not essential.

A non smoker is required for this position.

Driving licence would be beneficial.


This role will require a level of fitness/physical capability to carry the ventilator while the little boy runs and climbs as a normal 5 year old does.


Other requirements:

A DBS check and references will be required and paid for if you are a successful applicant.

Confirmation of appointment will be post the probationary period months depending on weekly hours work).

You will be required to prove you can work in the UK.

Optional enrolment to People's Pension.

This employment is bound by funding from the Integrated Care Board and the Local Authority. Funding changes may effect employment status.
