We are looking for an experienced health care assistant/nurse to join a team of established carers to support a lovely lady with tetraplegia in her own home.


Hours:
Evening/Twilight shift 4pm to midnight fixed rota Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays (32 hours per week at £19/hr). PAYE. Opportunity to add bank shifts as well as additional permanent shifts.

This job is clinically complex and would best suit someone with ample clinical experience with immobile patients i.e. advanced multiple sclerosis, spinal cord injuries, motor neurone disease.


Our client is 67 years old with primary progressive multiple sclerosis which has resulted in tetraplegia (paralysis below the neck) and osteoporosis.

This post would be an excellent opportunity for a dedicated carer who enjoys one-to-one care to directly influence and improve quality of life.

The job would best suit someone who is cheerful, patient and experienced in providing solid emotional support as well as delivering the more practical aspects of the role.

An interest and experience in the emotional and psychological complexities of chronic disease and disability would be invaluable.


Responsibilities:


  • Provide direct care and support to female with MS, osteoporosis and paralysis at her home with help from a junior health care assistant.
  • Take responsibility for the delegated clinical tasks: LVR breathing therapy, dental hygiene routine, Sleep system positioning and monitoring, hallucination management and reorientation (side effect of night time medication).
- use Trauma-based care principles to manage anxiety and distress associated with loss of bodily autonomy, training with Tavistock and Portman hospital available if required.

  • Complete documentation as required to meet the NHS funding requirements.
  • Provide handson care to deliver her evening routine including fully hoisted lifts, manual positional adjustment and sleep system positioning. So must have up to date patient moving and handling confidence at level 2 or above. Postural care training is desirable but training can be given if needed.

Qualifications:

  • Nursing experience is very much welcome
  • Previous experience at a senior level in a healthcare setting is essential, to include the use of hoists
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Compassionate and caring attitude towards patients
  • Ability to work well in a team environment
- knowledge of health and safety legislation and equipment checks

  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills

Requirements:
Right to work and DBS will both be required during applicant screening process.


Please note that due to the complexity of the role, several paid consecutive induction training shifts will take place at agreed times during the few weeks prior to starting the shift independently.

Once independent the pay rate is £19/hour. Training shifts are paid at £15/hour.
