Department purpose


The Belfast Finance department provides services to the A&O network of offices covering business partnering, management accounting, statutory reporting, working capital control, accounts payable and tax.

Offices currently served are London, Belfast, US, South Africa, Dubai, Israel, France, Luxembourg, Belgium, Netherlands and Germany.

This role will sit within the Finance Business Partnering team and will be responsible for financial support provided to the support service functions, as well as income generating departments, and will have a number of direct reports.

There is a strong client service ethic within the team and we pride ourselves on the high quality of work provided to the departments we support.


What you will do

Business Partnering

  • Act as strategic business partner for operational teams and working with department Directors, Heads and Managers to understand their financial and operational objectives and provide financial analysis, insight and recommendations to support decision making;
  • Ensure budget holders and managers have an awareness of financial performance requirements, including the need for budgetary control and adherence to accounting policies, and to provide financial awareness training where necessary;
  • Manage the monthly reporting of performance against budget for all stakeholders as required including presentation to senior management and collaborate with cross functional teams to identify opportunities to improve financial performance and drive cost savings;
  • Stay up to date with industry and market trends, and provide insights to the business on potential impact.
  • Perform regular project cost analysis, covering both capital expenditure and operating expenses. Monitor project expenditure and ensure they are within budgets;
  • Work with project managers and stakeholders to identify and resolve project financial issues;
  • Project manage the budget and forecasting process for the support department. Ensuring the budgets are prepared in line with the centrally agreed budget guidance and presented to senior management for timely signoff;
  • Provide financial oversight, guidance and support in the preparation of investment benefit business cases. Develop financial models and perform adhoc financial analysis to support business initiatives;
  • Work closely with other Finance teams such as Management Accounting, Accounts Payable, and Group Finance as well as local Finance teams to ensure accurate financial reporting.
  • Support in the development and maintenance of financial policies and procedures to ensure compliance with internal controls and regulations.
  • Support the implementation and roll out of a 'reporting hub' in finance operations to deliver an end to end Reporting Review, and Business Process Improvement through an enhanced reporting facility;
  • Support the Finance Reporting Specialist to drive efficient gains through improvement in transactional and client reporting processes and champion continuous improvement across Finance;
  • People Management_
  • Take responsibility of the daytoday running of the Finance Business Partnering team, ensuring tasks are completed on time and to the highest quality;
  • Work with the team, by setting challenging goals and objectives for all direct reports, create and manage development plans, and maximise the potential of each individual team member;
  • Ensure processes and internal controls are documented, follow best practice and are continually improved;
  • Delegate tasks appropriately to team in order to deliver a timely, high quality service to customers and to assist in the personal development of the team;
  • Manage conflict/frustrations within the team with gravitas, facilitating discussion, conversation and resolution;
