Job summary:

The Standards Unit develops UK Standard for Microbiology Investigations (UK SMIs) for clinical and public health microbiology. We do this with colleagues from throughout the UK in multi-professional working groups and in conjunction with professional organisations.

The Standards Unit is looking for a Technical Support Officer to play an important role in providing administrative support in developing UK SMIs and assisting in other supporting activities.

Job description:

The job holder will be required to carry out the following responsibilities, activities and duties:

  • Developing and maintaining UK SMIs in a robust Quality System to meet NICE accreditation standards and ISO 9001 certification.
  • Project management including the programme for developing UK SMIs; searches of scientific literature, reference indexing and importing citations into Endnote database; and convening national symposia.
  • Customer liaison and marketing.
  • Website management, data analysis and contributing to the development of complex databases.
  • To contribute to the smooth working of the Unit by providing cover for other staff where possible
  • The post holder should be able to present documents, upload documents, edit website pages on GOV.UK or other websites, analyse customer feedback questionnaires, audit reports and respond to technical and scientific queries regarding UK SMIs.

Person specification:


Essential

  • Demonstration of high level of active problemsolving skills these may relate to work or to other areas of an individual's life.
  • 1 Qualification and Credit Framework, Office of the Qualifications and Examinations Regulator (2009)
  • Administrative or secretarial experience
  • High level of experience & familiarity of using Microsoft Office, Adobe Acrobat Reader and Professional programmes, Visio and reference storing software
  • High level of practical experience of data and records management, analysis & reporting
  • High level of experience of working with databases and using complex database systems
  • Experience in Quality Systems with an underpinning of theoretical knowledge including document control.

Desirable

  • Experience of devising and developing complex database systems
  • Good interpersonal skills
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English language
  • Excellent numeracy skills
  • Accurate with meticulous attention to detail (texts and diagrams) and presentation of data
  • Maintain required levels of confidentiality.
