Position Title:

Chief Executive Officer
Reports to:Board of Trustees
Direct reports:Operations Coordinator, Client Coordinator and Mother Companions Coordinator
Salary:£35,000 - £38,000 annual salary, depending on experience
Hours: 37.5 hours per week with some flexibility.

Some evening hours are required for board meetings and external events

Based at:
Easton Business Centre, Felix Road, BS5 0EH with the option for some remote working based on requirements (to be discussed and negotiated during recruitment)


The Organisation


Project MAMA is a support service launched in March 2018, offering antenatal, birth and postnatal support to birthing people who are asylum seekers, refugees, or have experienced displacement.

We have supported upwards of 130 women in Bristol through linking mamas with specialist birth companions who provide nurturing support to those who have overcome significant adversity on their journey to parenthood, often experiencing multiple vulnerabilities and systemic discrimination.


A note on language:
Throughout this role description we refer to 'mama'.

We use the word mama as it is recognisable to people from different cultural and language backgrounds to denote people who are pregnant or that have given birth, regardless of gender identification.

We follow our client's lead with how they identify and which pronouns they use.


Mission


We believe that every woman and birthing person has the right to give birth safely, make their own informed choices, and receive the support they need for a positive birth and early parenting experience.


The Role
The Chief Executive Officer is responsible for both the day-to-day running and leading strategic development of the organisation, working closely with the Board of Trustees and senior management team


Responsibilities include:

governance, strategic and operational planning, service development, external partnership development, finance and fundraising oversight, human resources and ensuring team wellbeing, quality compliance and other key functions.

This is a diverse and challenging role, providing leadership for a small team and working energetically and appropriately with all stakeholders to achieve organisational plans.


The CEO will understand the unique needs of a growing charity, will be supportive and compassionate in their approach and be willing to be 'hands-on' in their role.


CORE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

In strategic and operational management the CEO will:

  • Execute Project MAMA's strategic plan with a focus on sustainability;
  • Diversify and strengthen our funding sources through strategic partnerships and fundraising;
  • Work with the Board of Trustees and Staff Team to deliver on fundraising, communications and program strategies and plans;
  • Provide leadership, direction and advice in the development of program, operational and financial plans, including review and evaluation for ongoing success, and effective management of change and growth;
  • Maintain the organisation's operational policies and procedures, and ensure charity commission, GDPR and regulatory compliance;
  • Create and oversee the implementation of monitoring and evaluation framework;
  • Ensure that the Board is provided with timely, strategically focused reports in advance of each Board meeting;
  • Ensure that the Board is fully informed on the functioning of Project MAMA, including proactively advising the Board of risks to the organisation.

In financial and resource management, the CEO will:

  • Be responsible for developing and maintaining sound financial practices and policies;
  • Work with staff and the Board to prepare the annual budget and manage Project MAMA's financial resources within budget allocations;
  • Ensure charity commission and regulatory compliance.

Working with team members and volunteers, the CEO will:

  • Develop, model and maintain a collaborative organisational culture that aligns with the mission and values of Project MAMA, to attract and retain skilled team members and volunteers;
  • Ensure that team members are supported within their roles through effective professional development and learning opportunities;
  • Effectively manage and support the team through supervision, reflective practice and team meetings.

In fundraising and communications, the CEO will:

  • Actively fundraise for Project MAMA utilising diverse revenue streams to ensure long term sustainability of the organisation;
  • Codevelop and oversee communications and fundraising strategy and implementation, in conjunction with the Board and team;
  • Contribute to a more equitable, respectful, and mothercentred maternal health system by pursuing partnerships; raising awareness of the barriers to care; and advocating for the benefits of mother companion support, particularly for women experiencing socioeconomic disadvantage;
