As a progressive department we are looking to appoint Senior Medicines Assistants to support the procurement, stock control and distribution of medicinal products including controlled drugs based at the NWAS Medicine Supply Hub in the Ribbleton area of Preston.

You will need excellent organisational and teamwork skills in order to undertake this role.

You must be able to work accurately under pressure, have a good eye for detail, be able to prioritise your workload, meet deadlines and be committed to the delivery of high standards.


You will need knowledge and experience of working in a pharmacy or medicines store, environment and use of stock control systems.

You will possess a level 2 NVQ in Pharmacy Services or an equivalent level pharmacy related qualification. Applicants must possess GCSEs including Maths and English at a minimum of grade 3 (D) or equivalent.

All applicants must gain a satisfactory enhanced DBS, have a good attendance record and a current valid UK driving licence to be eligible to be offered the position.

The post holder will be responsible for the supply of pharmaceutical products to ambulance stations and overseeing stock control.

The post holder will be responsible for the delivery of training to all grades of staff in all aspects of medicine supplies and use of computer systems.

They will work with the Medicines Assistants to ensure efficient receipt, storage and distribution of goods from stores to stations.

This will involve stock receipt, management and issue via the computer system.

A large proportion of the role involves packing medicine pouches accurately requiring a high level of attention to detail whilst doing repetitive tasks.

Under the direction of the Medicine Supply Manager and Supervisor the post holder will supply controlled drug orders and conduct a regular cycle of audits at medicine storage locations across NWAS.

For this part of the role you would be required to be confident in driving potentially long distances using motorway networks using an NWAS small van/car.

Effective communication skills is required to liaise with other staff in the stores area, paramedic emergency service staff on stations and with courier staff are required to ensure timely transfer and delivery of stocks and orders.

This is a permanent full time contract with immediate start available once all pre employment checks have been completed.

Day to day you would be working Monday to Friday 8am to 4pm with occasional opportunities for overtime if the service require.

Our highly skilled staff provide life-saving care to patients in the community and take people to hospital or a place of care if needed.

We also provide non-emergency patient transport services for those patients who require non-emergency transport to and from hospital and who are unable to travel unaided because of their medical condition or clinical need.


Alongside the other emergency services, we also work to ensure the safety of the public and treatment of patients in the event of a major incident.

We also deliver the NHS 111 service in the North West. NHS 111 replaced NHS Direct in 2013. This service was introduced to make it easier for people to access local NHS healthcare services in England. It provides non-emergency medical help fast, and is available 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.
