Hours:

One part-time position for 26 hrs covering 2 nights a week.


Pay:

£13.50 per hour weekdays £14.50 per hour for weekend and Bank Holidays.


Reporting Structure:

Your named employer will be the client's appointed Deputy.

You will be responsible to and directed by the Client's parents


You will also be managed by and responsible to the Client's Case Manager as well as Care and Therapy Coordinator.


Special Conditions of Service:

Driving licence essential as is a good level of physical fitness.


A motivated, enthusiastic and flexible individual is required to support a family to care for their 6 year old child.

She is a delightful little girl requiring skilled support in the areas of physical disability, learning disability, developmental delay, sensory needs and behavioural challenges as well as in maintaining her general health and wellbeing.

She has significant Epilepsy with seizures that are potentially very serious in nature, and hard to detect, so requires constant monitoring and skilled intervention in seizure management.


You will have an exciting opportunity to participate in the building up of a new skilled, effective, supportive and kind team who will develop a structure to meet the clients needs and provide her with an optimum quality of life.

This team will be supported by a skilled and experienced team of professional therapists, an educational specialist, epilepsy nurse specialist and psychologist.

This input will result in a real understanding of all the aspects of her complex presentation and establish, then implement; the support and input she requires to optimise her quality of life and ability to function and engage in all aspects of home and community life.


Key Tasks and Responsibilities

As a member of staff:


  • Work within a vibrant family home showing the sensitivity and approach required to succeed in that environment. Using initiative to optimise fun and social opportunities for the client. To support her parents and respect their wishes, aspirations and ethos when supporting them.
  • Work with client, professionals, school and family to undertake duties commensurate with the post and as requested by the family, Care and Therapy Coordinator and Case Manager.
  • To be a professional member of the staff team, supporting colleagues as necessary and helping to maintain a positive, vibrant, friendly and supportive workplace.
  • To ensure that colleagues are fully informed of recent developments at handover time.
  • Be aware of issues of safeguarding and alert Care and Therapy Coordinator/Case Manager to any concerns regarding the client's safety and wellbeing.
  • Be reliable and punctual; alert the family, at the earliest possible opportunity, if unable to attend for work in an emergency or in case of illness.
  • To maintain expected high standards of care and report any breaches in professional practice to the Care and Therapy Coordinator/Case Manager.
  • Participate in training, team meetings, supervisions, appraisals and any other meetings called by the Care and Therapy Coordinator/Case Manager. You will be have to be available for these when they are held in the daytime.

Direct work with the client:


  • To ensure individual needs of the child are met at all times.
  • To ensure dignity and respect and privacy are maintained at all times for her and her family.
  • To encourage her to live as full, active and comfortable a life as possible, participating in social and recreational activities within the home and in the local community, taking into account her health and medical condition.
  • Provide 11 support in school when required.
  • When required, to support the family during holiday periods at home and possibly abroad.
  • To assist with all aspects of personal care and daily living (e.g. washing, bathing, dressing, continence care)
  • To assist with exercises and treatment as instructed by any identified therapist or the Care and Therapy Coordinator/Case manager, travelling to hospitals or elsewhere as needed.
  • To have particular regard to the monitoring of the health of the child, maintaining nutrition and physical management.
  • To maintain patience and calmness at all times and, following guidelines given, act on own initiative to deal with circumstances to the best of your ability.
  • Administer any medication prescribed as agreed with the family and keep a written record of all drugs administered as per the Medication Policy.
  • A vital part of the role is maintaining safety by monitoring for and intervening in the event of epileptic seizures, as well as managing her in regard to her erratic sleep pattern and behaviour at night.
  • To complete daily records as advised.
  • To drive the child's vehicle (where applicable)
  • To monitor care supplies and, if running low, notify the Care and Therapy Coordinator so that the stock can be replenished.
  • To provide high standards of cleanliness, comfort and homeliness at all times.
