Description
To assist in the provision of the Clinical Engineering service, under supervision of the Logistics and Stock Manager

To support the Logistics and Stock Manager function as required

To carry out the equipment reception processes for Clinical Engineering including decontamination and database entries

To engage with training towards achieving a portfolio of relevant competencies


Preference will be given to internal Trust staff, as well as 'Priority' and 'At Risk' status including NHS At Risk staff throughout Devon who are able to display recent relevant experience as dictated by the Person Specification.

  • Understands and can operate the stores processes within Clinical Engineering in support of the Logistics and Stock Manager function, raising orders and undertaking stocktakes when required
  • Decontaminates equipment, reporting excessive or highrisk contamination to the appropriate Team Leader
  • Call logs equipment for repair or servicing as required
  • Monitors repaired equipment in Clinical Engineering and returns equipment to the Medical Equipment Library, Wards or Departments as appropriate
  • Engages with relevant training courses to enable achievement of competencies and assembly of a personal portfolio


The Service Line, Healthcare Science and Technology, provides specialist technical and scientific expertise in connection with the use, management and development of healthcare technologies and associated clinical services.

The Service Line employs a workforce of technologists, technicians, scientists and administrative staff, and provides specialist healthcare science and technology services covering the following areas:

  • Clinical and Radiation Physics
  • Clinical Engineering
  • Radiotherapy Physics
  • Clinical Measurement and Innovation
  • Sterilisation and Disinfection
Clinical Engineering has a total of 45wte staff including technical, support, administration and trainee staff.

It provides a medical devices management service to UHP, two neighbouring PCT's, GP surgeries and other healthcare facilities on 300 sites within an area of 450 square miles.

Clinical Engineering manages a database of 47,000 medical devices having a total value of over £100m.

The service provides whole life management of medical devices from pre-purchase assessment through safety and maintenance issues to end of life disposal and project and development work is also undertaken.

A Medical Equipment Library service is also provided in Derriford Hospital.

  • Raises orders and undertakes stocktakes
  • Familiar with stores processes to enable their correct operation and continuity during Stock Manager absence
  • Decontaminates equipment sent to the department for service or repair
  • Logs equipment into the repair/service process on the database
  • Stores equipment at the appropriate team ready for Technical staff to start their process
  • Transport equipment from/to Clinical Engineering, MEL and hospital Wards and Departments
  • Transports equipment, stores and items using Trust vehicles to other sites and services as required
