Description

STEPS is a purpose-built 23-bedroom, unique rehabilitation facility, able to deliver high-quality care from a range of medical and rehabilitation specialists on Abbeydale Road, Sheffield.

It is a unique environment that provides rehabilitation to clients who have suffered serious injuries and debilitating neurological illnesses.


STEPS has been designed to feel non-clinical, comfortable and homely and we hope you will agree STEPS is like no other care facility you will have worked in.

Our specialists work collaboratively under one roof and clients can access a wide range of therapies and specialist robotic and VR rehabilitation equipment.

You will be working within our interdisciplinary team comprised of Consultants in rehabilitation medicine; spinal injuries, amputations, anaesthetics, plastic surgery and pain management, physiotherapists; occupational therapists; speech and language therapists; neuro-psychologists; neurologic music therapist; prosthetic and orthotic specialists and amongst other nurses experienced in complex care.

Specific Responsibilities

  • To assess, implement and monitor individual rehabilitation plans for our clients in collaboration with the therapy team and under the supervision of the qualified therapists.
  • To plan, set up and lead therapeutic exercise classes under the guidance of the qualified therapists.
  • To teach and demonstrate exercise programmes to clients and their families and/or carers.
  • To provide soft tissue massage techniques as part of a client's rehabilitation plan.
  • To support and teach other team members some of the basic massage techniques and exercise programmes as appropriate.
  • To involve clients and carers in the development and delivery of goals within the rehabilitation plan.
  • To act upon and escalate issues as required following STEPS guidance and operating procedures.
  • To be compliant with the clinical governance requirements operating within STEPS procedures.
  • To be involved in clinical audits as and when directed.
  • To contribute and lead on specific projects related to service delivery e.g. exercise groups, education and training and contributing to the setting and monitoring of practice standards.
  • In conjunction with the wider interdisciplinary team ensure personal care and nutritional needs of patients are met, dealing with emergencies as required.
  • To undertake duties and responsibilities as defined in the work plan.

  • To undertake nonclinical duties related to the treatment and management of clients, photocopying, scanning, checking equipment is clean and tidy, arranging follow up appointments etc

Person Specification

Essential

  • Recognised clinical/relevant qualification at degree level or a minimum of 2 years' experience working as a Physiotherapy Assistant
  • Full British Driving licence
  • Experience of working in health and wellbeing setting, particularly working with clients with neurological conditions e

g:
TBI (Traumatic Brain Injury), SCI (Spinal Cord Injury) and complex trauma

  • Experience in direct client care with evidence of working alongside other clinical and allied health professionals
  • Experience working in a team
  • IT experience including Microsoft Office packages including word and excel.
  • Experience of working within governance frameworks e.g. clinical systems / data management / complaints untoward incidents
  • Demonstrable experience and working knowledge of the Data Protection Act
  • Creative and innovative approach, inclusive and engaging approach to developing therapy programmes and worki
