Background


Autifony is a cutting-edge biotech company dedicated to developing new medicines to treat rare genetic and broad spectrum CNS disorders by deploying its pioneering ion channel drug discovery platform.

The Company's pipeline includes clinical stage first-in-class Kv3 channel modulators for rare epilepsy syndromes and the neurodevelopmental disorder Fragile X Syndrome.

Earlier stage programmes target a number of highly validated voltage
- and ligand-gated channels, including lysosomal ion channels for CNS indications including epilepsy, Parkinson's and Alzheimer's disease, vascular dementia and lysosomal storage disorders as well as other diseases.


Requirements:


Autifony is seeking a highly motivated and experienced electrophysiologist with an excellent track record in ion channel drug discovery to become part of a dynamic preclinical R&D group focused on the discovery and development of novel ion channel therapeutics.


This Head of Biology position will be based at Autifony's UK laboratories and, in the first instance will oversee the newly established Electrophysiology Group and contribute to the success of the current and new drug discovery programmes.

Experience

  • The applicant should have a demonstrable track record in ion channel research and drug discovery within the pharma, biotech, and/or CRO life sciences sector.

Responsibilities:


  • Leadership and management of the UK Biology group consisting of a team of degree/PhD level scientists, in the first instance.
  • Management, planning, designing, conducting, troubleshooting and analysing bespoke experiments aligned with the drug discovery and new target validation goals of the company
  • Supervision and mentorship of more junior group members to support their scientific capabilities, technical skills and wider career development
  • Strategic thinking and technology insights to help shape the breadth of capabilities included as the state of the art facilities for ion channel research and ion channel drug discovery within the company
Essential Skills

  • Applicants must have good written and oral communication skills in English.
  • Ability to work independently and, ideally, an already demonstrated ability to manage a team of scientists and/or coordinated programmes of work aligned with ion channel R&D

Qualifications:


  • PhD degree and postdoc or equivalent industry experience in biological sciences preferred
