Salary - £29,000 per annum, pro rota
Hours - 16 per week


Bristol Mind are looking to recruit a qualified counselling supervisor with excellent counselling skills whilst being warm, patient, and respectful.

Background and Purpose


As a local charity, Bristol Mind aims to meet client's mental health needs as a priority, offering a range of services.

Meeting Minds is a busy, affordable counselling provision and one of a growing element of Bristol Mind's services. We deliver online and face to face therapy for adults 18+, offering up to 16 sessions of Integrative therapy.


Our sessions are delivered by trainee and qualified counsellors, with students coming from a wide range of training providers, such as BCPC, UWE as well as Metanoia and the Berne Institute.

In addition, we have some trainees studying the Doctorate in Counselling Psychology in London, Newport and Bristol.


Good practice and supporting clients and counsellors is at the heart of the service, and our feedback and reputation demonstrates that.

You will be joining a small friendly team of knowledgeable, skilled staff to contribute your experience, ensuring best practice and supporting and developing our passionate, competent counsellors through supervision and client assessments.

Special Features

  • Negotiable days/times of working hours initially and then, once agreed, to be a set working pattern. Hours can be within Monday to Friday, please note the 16 hours to include
    one evening a week from 6.30pm to 8.30pm for group supervision delivery.
  • Applicants will need to work at out central Bristol office for some of the hours, and some will be online or telephone from home or in a confidential environment.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • To deliver approximately between 6 and 8 hours of supervision a week a mixture of one to one and a twohour group session of up to 4 counsellors.
Hours to include one evening (of your choice) a week for group supervision 6.30pm to 8.30pm.

  • To facilitate an holistic, integrative approached supervision model, recognising its organisational setting and the challenges that might bring.
  • Actively facilitate engagement with trainees and create the safe space for learning, especially in group settings.
  • Identify learning areas and CPD for trainee counsellors.
  • Identify safeguarding concerns and liaise with clinical lead.
  • Ensure organisational policies and procedures are being followed.
  • As part of a staff team, undertake approximately 5 assessments a week for potential clients over the phone, to include considering the individual's mental health capacity for entering into therapy at this time and ensuring we are the right service for them and explaining confidentiality and safeguarding policies appropriately.
  • Attend external clinical supervision monthly.
  • Attend line management meetings with the Wellbeing Manager.
  • Complete monitoring and administrative tasks as requested

Contribute to the overall running of Bristol Mind

  • Ensure that the views of staff, volunteers and service users are shared with the CEO and BDM to inform project development.
  • Assist in the development of other projects and services specifically supporting people's mental health and wellbeing.
  • Carry out work in accordance with Bristol Mind's policies and procedures, current legislation, and quality standards.
  • Ensure that the organisation is presented in a professional manner to its beneficiaries, members and stakeholders.
  • Take responsibility for your own safety and that of colleagues and visitors in the workplace.
  • To contribute to events and activities that improve the visibility of, and raise the profile of, Bristol Mind as a whole.
  • To contribute to the effective running of the organisation within legal and good practice frameworks, in conjunction with colleagues.
  • To be prepared for, attend, and engage in staff meetings, supervision, appraisals, and training, as agreed with your line manager.
  • To undertake other tasks which may not be included in this job description, but which fall within the scope of this post.
